lol thats what i was afraid of......... can you post a screenshot? For the first time in my life I'm very "ugh" about upgrading... I love high information density.

I have been using it since beta 1 and I am loving it. It was nice seeing how things were improving over the summer. I am surprised by how it runs, knowing how big of an update it is. Of course, this might vary based on your workflow. If you like the design or not is purely subjective, however, I am a major fan of it. If you are worried about updating, maybe wait for the next minor update, so that more bugs will be fixed. Furthermore, this will give time for 3rd parties to release updates as well.

I know what it looks like from all the marketing material, but someone claiming it's ugly I was hoping they would post some specific examples. I've seen stuff from months ago that was really ugly like the battery indicator but I'm not sure whats changed since then.OS - macOS Tahoe

No. APFS was introduced in Mojave, two years ago. It was made mandatory for boot drives last year in Catalina.

You summed up my biggest problem with it. So much wasted space. The balance is off.
I didn't install any betas, so I'm new to the experience of Big Sur. It all looks and feels like a cheaper operating system. Speed seems fine, but the dock is horrible, menus are basic, and the window shapes are off. It just doesn't feel like a high-end OS anymore. That's my impression during the first 30 minutes.
Worst thing about this will be when MS forces us to the new version of Outlook...absolutely UGLY!
My biggest fear as i've been seeing screenshots reported in MR's posts. What is happening to Apple?

Books doesn't have a toggle for list/grid anymore, you have to go to the menu FAR away in the left corner of the screen.
Books added a lot of menus for Store. I don't use the store, and I can't get rid of the crap.
But there is a Polish-English dictionary, although yet not a Greek-English one.
Round icons. More air.
No new fonts.
No new apps.
Not faster.
Not more memory efficient.
Probably many more emoji. I don't know. I don't care.

Every OS release since Snow Leopard has been a race to add more superfluous bloat than ever and with Big Sur Apple has outdone themselves!

Performance wise, I'm not sure if faster is the word but some things seem more responsive ( i9 16" MBP, 32GB, etc).
That said, visually everything looks really, really fat. It reminds me of the first days when the linux distros were trying to be prettier.

Wow. Are there any security patches that would make it absolutely necessary to upgrade? The screenshot above looks like Arch Linux.
Total black screen crash not even 5 minutes after install. Not a good first impression of Big Sur but I'm going to stay positive and hope that it was just a fluke.

New mail app toolbar is atrocious. The reduced size of the icons on the top bar wastes a lot of space as well.
