Walt, wow. He's unimpressed that while it's the best yet, it doesn't redefine the category it redefined last year not long after it actually initially redefined (created?) the category?

Unrealistic expectations much?

Solar panel behind the screen, the next thing that will solve all battery woes

iPad Air 3, the enclosure and screen are the solar panels

:D

I wish they made leather Smart Covers instead of just the case

They gimped the leather case on the iPhone 6 that exposes the bottom

90 minutes less battery life than the original iPad Air. It's THINNER though. What a joke!

My iPad Air lasted 4 days 3 hours of standby + 1 day 8 hours of usage with 13% of battery left before I recharged it last Sunday. It's really amazing, and I don't want to sacrifice any bit of this battery life :(

I have the silicon version and I actually like that the bottom is exposed.it's nice to see some gold:D

Sacrificing battery life to make it thinner sounds more like compromise than innovation to me.

And why did they get rid of the mute switch? I don't see anyone ascribing that one to innovation... Cost savings maybe?

"Doubling the RAM means that the iPad can keep more apps and browser tabs in memory without having to reload anything. That results in a speed boost which which is very apparent as you hop between apps and load new web pages."

Vindication! More RAM is better. Everyone who has said otherwise is full of crap. FINALLY!

No... They certainly could program it to keep more tabs open with 1GB of ram if they wanted.

Jesus H. Christ. Want it all? Get a full fledged computer!!!!

I find it so silly that people jump all over Apple for lack of innovation on the hardware front, when all of the action is so clearly on the software side -- and things like Continuity prove that Apple continues to be at the forefront.

My new 128Gb one arrived about 3 hours ago and it is so much faster than my 3rd gen 32b paddi.

I use it a lot for work and for demonstrating some of our products, so for me faster = a better experience for all concerned.

You Aussies are doubly lucky: you live in a beautiful country and you got the iPads first!

Is it sexist for me to not be surprised that the only reviewer to destroy her review unit is Joanna?

I admire Joanna for trying to be the next David Pogue and IT "it" girl. But her reviews seem simplistic and often miss the point of a product--as is obviously the case here. "Opps...shouldn't this be more rugged" Her surface pro 3 review was pathetic--completely missing the point of the pen interface.

I like David Pogue, but did he even get a unit? I'm not sure he did. It isn't much of a review. It was so generic.

"Apple also claims...,"
"Apple says..."
"the iPad now has a fingerprint sensor "

He cites a bunch of specs. He never once said what he thought about it.

Sorry Pogue, you are losing your mojo. Your stuff with the Times was so much better.

With all the ports, speaker and mic and the thickness (yes, it's thickness not thinness) of the bottom I guess it may be very hard for Apple to enclose it without making the case too flimsy.

I wish Apple would favour battery life over thinness.

To be fair, it's much (and I mean MUCH) harder to make a thinner iPad without sacrificing battery life. With the current battery tech, no one can slap a bigger battery and still make it as thin as the latest iPad.

To be fair the iPad for intents and purposes hasn't changed much since iPad 2 design and Retina were added.

Its just faster CPU, thinner, faster CPU, thinner, faster CPU. The End.

Not many people are gonna be paying $400 every year for that.

Phones are necessities and are subsidised, tablets are largely luxuries that aren't.

True.
But I didn't upgrade to the Ipad 2 because it didn't seem worth it, but now this may push me over the edge.

As far as what phones are necessary for, calls, texts, and emails, the 4 is still very capable at doing all of that...maybe even the 3G. And yet people found a way to rationalize upgrades.

The only thing settled is that with more RAM the battery life sucks. If they had less ram we would get maybe 2 days of battery life. I guess battery life and Ram issue is settled;)
Possibly...but not conclusive. Doesn't the new one have a slightly smaller battery ;)
Anyway, to me, I will take slightly lesser run times if I am getting 2GB RAM. This gives hope that the iPad can run smoothly without any stutters for more than 2 software revisions.

I buying it to replace my iPad2 but it really needs to become more for me to buy another one.

I really would not replace my iPad2 if it didn't lag so bad on ISO 8 to use with the Mac.

I had the same problem but 8.1 significantly ameliorated the lag - it's not quite as good as 7.whatever but it's very usable again.

The Lag is unbearable, my father updated to iOS 8 by mistake and I can't use the thing anymore!

I will try that out
