Get a smart cover and a skin on the back.

Don't ruin that nice glass screen with a rubbery feeling piece of plastic.

For me, the screen protector is less so to protect the glass screen itself, but more so the metal casing (my iphone has a small but noticeable nick on the side where my casing does not cover), the result of my going jogging with it, keys and some loose change in a waist pouch. :p

Go naked. Use all the cash you would spend on janky accessories and just get AppleCare+. That way you are worry free.

That's right! For $99 (plus $49 deductible) you get one "do over" if you drop it and/or scratch it. And you enjoy the device the way it was meant to be used.

That's much better than missing out on the look/feel for the off chance something may happen (or it may not and you missed out on using the device the way it was meant/is optimal for nothing).

I'm in the 'always use a screen protector' camp for my iPad. I originally used one because my grandkids would play with it. But after using the Power Support antiglare I find I can't do without it.

It's not so much about scratches for me but about the glare and fingerprints. I bought one for my new iPad but used it all day yesterday without it. However, the glare and fingerprints really bug me so I put it on and I'm much happier.

I compared my iPad 2 with the antiglare directly against my husband's naked iPad 2 and it didn't detract from the display to me. If it is detracting from it on the new iPad I really can't tell. All I know is that I'm not constantly wiping it off or looking at myself or moving it around to see around the glare, so I'm happy.

To each his own.

I use anti glare screen protectors not for the actual anti glare ness of it, but rather for the fingerprint reduction. I hate having smudges all over the screen and am willing for give up a tiny bit of clarity for that.

Also, I like the slipperiness of the AG protectors. They make things such as five finger gestures and whatnot much smoother.

I would say it depends on your usage and cover.

If you have a folio type cover or smart cover, so the screen is used when you are not using it, then you should be okay. If you just use a back shell (or leave it bare), so the glass is exposed when you put it in a bag or briefcase, then definitely get a screen protector. If you use a slip cover, but aren't religeous about putting it the slip cover when not in use, but a screen protector on it.

Personally, I like the anti-glare screen protectors, since they minimize fingerprint problems and glare. So even if I wasn't worried about scratches, I would put one on.

Third iPad, one of the first two was (possibly) saved from some pretty bad scratches by a screen protector. YMMV.

This, its all personal preference. I use screen protectors on my phones and ipads. Might lose a little "depth" but for me personally that little extra protection is worth it.

Personal preference. I have one b/c I don't have to be as careful when I clean the screen; i.e. whether a cleaner has ammonia or alcohol, both of which will destroy the oleophobic coating.

But if you don't have one, the odds of you scratching the screen are slim. Some don't like adding a plastic layer to their screen, I get that. So again, it's whatever makes you comfortable.

You can get a cheap screen on Amazon for a couple bucks. One thing I'm certain of is that there is no quality difference between a $2 protector and a $20. The more expensive ones can thinner or be easier to put on, but never had a visual issue with the cheap ones, and they don't leave residue behind either.

I have never used a screen protector on my iPhone or iPad 1. The iPad is in the original apple case, so it's protected, and it has no scratches. My iPhone has a Speck pixel skin case with no protection for the front, and I throw it in my purse with my keys in the same pocket and still no scratches after almost 3 years. So I'm in the no screen protector camp. My new iPad is in a folio case, so I'm not worried about it.
