I don't mean to bash on your idea, I'm more just curious as to your reasoning behind "DON'T PANIC". I feel like I'm missing something.

It sounds like you haven't read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," so yes, yes you are definitely missing something. Too bad the iBookstore is missing it, too...

"DON'T PANIC" was written in large, friendly letters, on the cover of The Hitchhiker's Guide the the Galaxy. Possibly one of the most useful eBooks that ever will be published (or has been published depending where in time you're reading this post) and certainly a progenitor of the iPad:) In fact I see now, in a blinding flash of light, that the iPad is of course, the perfect vehicle for a Hitchhiker's Guide the the Galaxy :)

See here for some further details. Better still, buy the whole five-part trilogy of the story of this remarkable eBook - the first volume of which was also/will be, coincidentally, called The Hitchhiker's Guide the the Galaxy

HTH

The problem with the iPad is that the back is rarely visible. Everything you want on the device is on the screen, and unlike the Macbook, there is no lid which gets closed. On a Macbook lid, etchings or decals look great and they get attention. However, unless you are purposely showing off your iPad engraving, I doubt many people would notice it.

It's nice to mark your personal stuff though.. woof woof ;)

I've already designed a laser-cut sticker for mine...

I've already designed a laser-cut sticker for mine...

I would love to offer this service but I really dont want to ship back and foward ipads, the best way to get your iPad engraved is in throphies stores.

I will do another engraving to my ipad today, I will post the picture later today.

Those letters don't look particularly friendly to me. Just sayin'. :D

That's odd because I specifically chose them for what I perceived as friendliness.

Ah, well. It's all a matter of taste, as the cat said while licking its ear'ole...

In other news: my local sign-makers has relocated so I'll have to find another place to get this sort of thing cut.

Ipad case engraving

Hi guys,

I submitted some pics of a IPAD sleeve I am getting through a friend on the "show me your cases thread" - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/890813/

I really liked the look of laser engraving and have since looked into the process further. Most service providers charge by time. So the more intricate the design the higher the cost. Also the U.S. make some great machines by a company called epilogue. You usually need a good vector image of the art work using Corel Draw or Illustrator. Also the parameter of the machine or calibrated to speed and power of the laser. My friend who has a buying agency in India for the sourcing of high end fashion garments insists that laser engraving and cutting is all the rage and will continue to develop for some time. I think there could be a market for laser engraving on accessories for gadgets like the sleeve I am getting. The sleeve is costing me about 33 to 35 dollars. I have been told that the laser engraving is the most expensive part of the production.
