This thread is awesome :D It would be great if Steve got wind of this and offered Justin a free iPhone or at least some accessories. This is the type of free publicity Apple thrives on.

welp it's definitely been over 48 hours since i placed my pre-order.. and it's still not in their systems.. when i called last night they told me since it's been over 48 hours, it isn't in the system means it didn't go through. it told me it did, i got the confirmation email.. yet it's not in their systems.. now, i work in IT, so i have some understanding of where things went wrong, but it doesn't help me after the fact.

so all they could say there's nothign they could do and that they're sorry.. as if that helps me at all, my girl is going out of the country on the 28th and all they can do is say sorry.

so my next course of action is to find a sympathetic store manager that can maybe set me one aside since that was what the point of the pre-ordering in the first place.. i hope one of these stores can restore what little faith in at&t i have..

if not, i guess i'll check out how feasible radio shack (ugg) can be since i leave a few blocks from one, or maybe even check out the SI mall like someone said they were going to do?

My thoughts

I'm all about people being able to camp out for new stuff, etc, but here's why this situation especially bothers me:

Justin's not employed, and not in school, yet somehow, he is able to afford to camp out and goof off for a whole week just to be the first in his town to purchase the iphone 4. How does an unemployed person afford the phone, plus the monthly fee that comes with it?

My guess is he's on unemployment or disability. Justin if I'm wrong and you're not on receiving some kind of gov't assistance, you can ignore the rest of this message.

Moving forward, I know plenty of people with seizure disorders that hold jobs and are productive in society, and for you to be able to camp in the Texas heat for a full week seems to show that you are capable of working. If you are on gov't assistance, shame on you for using our tax dollars so you can have a week long vacation to buy a high end phone.

Like I said, if you're not on gov't assistance, never mind. Either way, camp safely.

Hey Justin

I think you are doing a great thing and having fun doing it.

The news have even made it to Sweden and Swedish Macworld

The best regards from the other side of the world:D

You've made a lot of assumptions there.

Even if he's on any kind of public assistance, and you can argue the whole "socialism" aspect of it ad nauseum, once you give someone money you can not dictate what he uses it on. If he wants to buy an iphone with what is now HIS money (not yours or mine), its HIS choice.

That's really what it comes down to. And if he is on ssd or something similar, rather than bitching on an internet forum, maybe you should call your congressperson and express your displeasure at the system. Signed, Your Friendly Neighborhood SSD Attorney :D (I'm completely supportive of Justin btw)

Assuming your assumptions are 100% true and founded, there are still tens of thousands of injustices out there tens of thousands of times more unjust, being practically ignored by the whole nation as we whittle away our lives mindlessly consuming and usually ignoring the bigger picture.

Let the kid enjoy himself.

You mean like spending all of our time obsessing over a new iPhone on the internet? :p

I really need to be more productive and stop obsessing over this object.

Shame Justin couldn't set up a web cam, that would've been great. I can't help but to keep checking back on here to see what he is doing or that he made it safely through the night. Hey Justin, has anyone tried to freak you out at night yet?

All the best, it will be a big and well deserved high five when you are first to leave the store with that little baby in your hands!

Wow. Way to project judgments and make an arse-load of assumptions.

Haha, as jonesing for my iPhone as I am, I'd totally have that webcam on 24/7!

We should each pitch in a dollar for "Justin's iPhone Fund." PayPal the money to Geckotek so he could bring him an Apple Gift Card on the 24th.

Brianm96 and other inconsiderate members are just showing their level intelligence/ignorance. They wouldn't say it directly to you. It's just easy for someone to judge you without knowing you or your situation, especially when they are hiding behind a screen name. Not sure what their beef is. Maybe their trying to 'educate the public on social issues' (which belongs in another forum), or maybe they are just idiots.

Either way, I hope you don't let it bother you.

k first off if he is unemployed in Tx then his previous employer (which means that he had a JOB) is the one paying for his unemployment.

Second disability is a long and arduous process. One cannot waltz in with a stomach ache and start getting a check every month. The definitions of disability by SS are very well defined and defined as a 'disability' for a very good reason, even if you don't recognize it as such.

Third how do you know his parents/rich grandparents/rich uncle isn't the one footing the bill? Regardless, its none of your business.

As said above you make alot of ASSumptions. If this rubs you the wrong way then you should open a news paper or check out nyt/wsj and see whose really ripping you off. This guy could be getting $100,000/yr on assistance and it's chump change to those getting bonuses from bailed out funds.

WTH! It's his life, what does it matter what he does with his time! Keep your two-bit opinion to yourself

Day 2 Update

Sorry I haven't been responding back and fore to the form that much today. Still been dealing with press coverage from several crews and individuals. I will try my best to keep everyone updated when possible.

One of the guys from this form was kind enough to get someone of you to fund a bucket of food and drinks for me while waiting in line and deliver it to me. Thanks to those for being so generous!

If you haven't noticed, I have gone completely from a general person camping in line to someone famous internationally. Here are some of the crews that have came to take pics, film and interview so far in the past 2 days.

LOCAL:
Channel FOX 4, WFAA 8, NBC 5, CBS 11, KDAF 33, The Dallas Morning News (3 times - quick article, main article, video news)

NATIONAL
The Huffington Post

INTERNATIONAL
Unknown sources in Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and others worldwide

OTHER:
MacRumors, Engadget and other individuals.

Also today when I was getting ready for a interview in the restroom in the back of the store, a mysterious large amount of cargo was delivered today. It contains a bunch of same size of packed brown boxes that are unmarked and wrapped sealed with plastic packaging wrap. The cargo was huge and about 7ft tall and 6 ft wide. Could this already be the new iPhones been delivered, or is it a restock of current products on the shelve? I do not have the answer at this time.

You are right, it is a lot of assuming, actually, it's not. He either is on gov't assistance or he's not. That's all I assumed. And keep in mind that this discussion is only if he is. And if so, you are correct that it is his money, but it's sad we're providing people on gov't assistance with enough to afford luxuries like that. Maybe, it's his birthday present, who knows? All I said was if...

And my comment wasn't just about if he could spend it like that, it was partially questioning if he really can or can't work should he be receiving the benefits.

The only reason I commented in the first place was because you wouldn't think it's the unemployed guy who has the time and resources to camp for a week for, well, any gadget. But, now that Justin is, whatever his situation, I'm sure he will have fun.

Over and out.
