So PM me then... I won't tell on you. If you say ridiculous things or try to make mountains of molehills I'm goint to point it out. You don't get a free pass.
You make valid points: there are things the iPhone doesn't do. It's just impling that these things completely invalidate the iPhone is ridiculous... like saying the iPod is worthless because it lacks DivX support or something like that.
If DivX was standard on all mp3 players and Apple jumped in the market after 20+ years and charged $500 for the first iPod the it would be.
Sorry about the attitude, I won't PM. The big problem with justifying the iPhone's limitations is that most don't look at it in context. The device was wonderful when if first came out... I was a month away from my service contract being up with Sprint. But as the details came I decided to renew. There wasn't much that would compel me to get an iPhone.
Now that the cat is out of the bag it is a bit more limiting then it was 6 months ago. The next few iPhones will fix many of the issues but I just don't think (as a die hard Apple FanBoy) that this phone is a good representation of Apple's innovation. The UI is where it is at. But the phone is just a phone with some good additions that were only made possible with the touchscreen UI.
I know that the iPhone is a big gamble on the Apple brand name but that should mean that pushing back Leopard, iMac updates, MacMini updates, DotMac updates, MacPro updates, a possible and much desired mini tower...
Not that we need these things all at once, but many people (especially the ones not getting the iPhone) still use Apple's other products. Now that the entire industry has it's eyes on the iPhone it better not fail... then I won't see OS X.6.
Basically... the iPhone is nice... it will be even nicer after the next revision. The phone industry is now forced to make better looking interfaces and UI's which is much needed in the stagnating cell phone UI industry. They can't give us crap anymore which is good, and why I am mad at Palm for not updating after many many years of an outdated OS that mimics the 10 year old Palm V.
BUT
That doesn't mean the iPhone is perfect or that Apple's method of distribution of the iPhone is the best method. Once people realize that, then Apple can make a better phone and other products. If no one speaks the truth then the cell phone market will turn up like the MP3 market... lead by the iPod and stagnating.
