Naturally, makes perfect sense. Air should be first than Pro(13") than Pro 15" than iMac and rest. If this true than you Apple, nailed it again and again and again. Apple, seems to do no wrong!!!!!!!!!

Who else is excited to own a computer that needlessly switched to a processor type that no one else uses and that won't be compatible with any of the software you currently run?
Don't be so ignorant. Every non-Apple software I use for work could be run on a Raspberry Pi with the exception of the already announced Office products.

I just bought a 2020 13" MBP when they came out. I'm gonna be pissed if they update it after 6 months.
If you didn't know about Apple silicon macs coming when you made your purchase 6 months ago, you clearly weren't paying that much attention to "what's new." Just ignore the new products and keep using your 2020 Mac like you always have until it is time to upgrade again.

Based on the history of the PPC-Intel switch, you will be covered for several years, and probably wouldn't even notice unless you run Windows via bootcamp and try to do THAT on the Apple silicon system in 6-7 years.

You just changed the subject but anyway, no one relying on their macs for mission critical tasks should be using emulation to get their work done
That’s an inane statement to say the least. People relied on Rosetta back in the PowerPC to Intel transition for mission critical tasks before x86 native apps rolled out fully.

No mate, we are now going from industry standard to a non-industry standard. No, iOS fisherprice apps don’t count

A computer that's has far better performance/watt ?
A computer that has a translator for old applications that makes them run as fast as they would have on an intel based machine ?

Plenty of people!

But they won't be trolling these forums like you are.

Interesting that we could see a new Air and new MBP, both at 13".

MBA with the A14X for maximum battery life and MBP with A14T for more performance at the expense of maximum battery life?

As for the 14" MBP, I think that is being held-up by MiniLED. Those displays are said to be coming in 2021, so it might launch then.

And this forum was for so long filled with complaints that Apple took too long to update Macs with new parts compared to Windows OEMs. Now that Apple is pumping out new Intel (and now ASi) Macs on an accelerated basis, people are complaining they are updating too fast. *shakes head*

I’m making a wild guess here but I think there is a possibility that people use mac with software that’s not made by apple or adobe.
Rosetta 2
Moreover all it requires is a recompile to make it universal. Plus the obvious testing cycle before releasing it, but that's standard software business.

The 13” MacBook Air/Pro line makes sense as a starting point. I wonder if they will keep a single Intel version around for a few years, like they did the 2012 13” MacBook Pro with SuperDrive (maybe the Ice Lake version re-priced to $1499, or the Coffee Lake at $1299)?

We likely won’t get radical redesigns until 2021 or 2022. They first want to pull off the transition. That said, I would like the 12“ to return, though the Mac’s ability to run iPadOS apps would mean a lot of overlap between the iPad Pro and such a small MacBook.

I really hope the four-port 13" MBP is included. Even better, they should drop the two-port model because it overlaps the MacBook Air so much. The overlap will increase further on ASi when the Air can actually perform well with its ridiculous cooling.

Until x86_64 virtualisation is possible, I'll stay with a Intel-based Mac.

I have yet to see anything about it running VMware Win10 efficiently - especially with real professional SW like Empire XPU, Altium Designer, Solidworks etc - I don't want to maintain two computers (Intel MacBook + Win10 laptop) and I don't want to go over to Win10 for my administration and documentation work...
