Apparently the 11” Magic Keyboard is about 600 grams (according to another video), or about twice the weight of the 11” Smart Keyboard Folio which is under 300 grams. If true then, yowza!

Is this 11” weight accurate, and what is the weight of the 12.9”? It seems pretty certain though that the weight of the 12.9” plus Magic Keyboard would be significantly more than the 13.3” MacBook Air.

I am wondering this too and I hope that the combination will not be heavier than my 13" MacBook Pro, because if it is I will have little reason to use the iPad instead of my laptop when travelling. I guess we will all know when we get the keyboard next week.

Wow, it looks super sturdy. Loos great. Only one problem. I don't need this. (To be precise, I don't see any value in this.)

If I wanted this setup I would just use my MacBook Pro.
If I didn't have my MacBook Pro, I would just purchase MacBook Air for the same money.

It certainly looked and sounded heavy in one of the videos.

Just answering some of the questions I got based on the previous videos:

Q&A’s on iPad Pro Magic Keyboard - Part 1

Thanks for the video. One question: are the magnets strong enough where you could (in theory) lay the iPad on top of the keyboard (while closes) so you could possibly save space (like on a plane) or write on top of it and it be somewhat stable/protected on the back? Thanks again!

I posted this on YouTube also, so apologies for the double post.

yep..

...prepare to get deluged with opinions and takes about how “you don’t understand how amazing this is“ and “Apple has done it again!”, “boo yah - best company ever!”
As others are pointing out, a "neutered OS" which it is. Yes there are more apps but you are bound by the still many many limitations of iOS. And as people are finding out with the iPad and keyboard they are approaching or in excess of a laptop weight. And doing all that with a smaller screen. I use a Surface Pro 7 for work. Great. Light. But I rarely use just the SP7 screen. It is either docked to 2x24" or 1x34"UW for workflow. My Mac Mini uses the 34"UW and so does my 15" MBP, which of course is pretty decent real estate on its own, but in a still manageable weight class.

I guess it needs the weight to keep it stable with the iPad completely raised off the table. Plus, the charging pass through port, two hinges, and track pad would add a significant amount of weight.

It may be worth it though for the increased stability and the better ergonomics.

BTW, it’s good that the bottom hinge only tilts less than 90 degrees. This brings the screen forwards a bit, so there is much less risk of falling backwards.

One big thing though, the fan in the MacBook Air is loud. The iPad is blissed silence. 😀
Tell me about it. However, I have the even lighter and also silent fanless 12” MacBook (2017). ;)

I don’t understand comments about iPad vs MB Air... and so on.

First people asked for keyboard support.
It came....

Then people asked for mouse support.
It came crippled in form of assistive touch.

The people complained about the way it is implemented.
Apple implemented a different way - their own style which is closer to a mouse but still aligns with touch screen.

Then Apple said OK: we have that old Folio keyboard, we will make a sturdier one with a trackpad since people want both trackpad and keyboard.
Overpriced? YES! Crazy Yes!

Now people complain about it. Why???
You don’t have to buy it.
Apple doesn’t enforce you to use the iPad with the new Magick Keyboard.
It’s an alternative/option. If you are liking it and willing to pay it’s fine.
If you don’t then use it as before! It doesn’t change anything!

It’s not like Surface Pro. What on Earth is going on with people????

Looks nice. I just can't justify that price for my use though.
Yeah I was set to order, ordered it, then immediately cancelled it. I have the Smart Keyboard Folio and with the increased mouse support, I just ordered a new mouse. Actually ordered the Magic Mouse 2 but didn’t care for it at all so it went back. I love the design and functionality of the Magic Keyboard, but I can’t justify it when I just spent $200 on the Smart Keyboard Folio 2 months ago. I will still need to use my 2017 MacBook Pro throughout med school, otherwise, I would just go ahead and order the Magic Keyboard.

The Logitech Combo Touch for my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5” is also very heavy, at 318 grams more than the 245 grams for the Apple Smart Keyboard. That would make it around 560-565 grams for that Logitech case.

However much of the added weight appears to be from their kickstand case.

Different applications they serve no doubt, but the iPad Pro 12.9 with this Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil is very expensive. Albeit, it’s incredibly flexible. The new MacBook Air is super impressive tho. Crazy fast DDR4X RAM, 10th gen Intel quad core processor, better pricing. Great value.

Let me see if I can phrase this correctly, if you remove it from the case and take it to the couch lets say, while the case is still open, is it still connected to the case via Bluetooth? As in the keyboard will still light up even though the iPad is not in the case? Or does it connect some other way like the smart connector?
It doesn’t connect via Bluetooth, it uses the smart connector.

That they cripple the Mac to boost this crap.

Plus, the added bulk and weight. I hate typing on a touch screen. If I have a lot of typing to do, I use my Mac.
I have paired my old Apple wireless keyboard with my iPad. That's not an ideal setup on your lap.
But, for me...to have to constantly deal with the extra bulk and weight...it's not worth it for the few times that I would use it.

Can you show us how the apps like Word work with the cursor and trackpad. Printing something?
Apps Like Word need to be updated to support the trackpad properly. You can still use it but it is not as fluid without proper trackpad support.
