Coming back to AW when we get 6-7 days of battery with always on, until then it's Garmin.

I understand that Micro LED is a nice update over older LED backlighting tech, but it’s not superior to OLED. There is noticeable “blooming” around light elements on dark backgrounds, which is pretty much all of the native watchOS interface.

If microLED is what finally gets a standard Apple Watch over the 3 day battery milestone, I'll be waiting in line with bells on to trade my FitBit for an Apple Watch on release day.
can current standard apple watch even make it pass 2 days? my series 7 makes it to 1 day and a half at best.

I know I'm a minority here and I've been jumped on online for this opinion before lol, but I hope the move also makes it higher resolution? With the current 326ppi OLED I can definitely see fringing if I bring it up to my face, your eyes may not, mine do.

This is not right - you're thinking of Mini LED, which is an LCD tech with small LED backlights, but much bigger than the pixels. microLED is lit at the pixel level like OLED. You've likely never seen one as it's very expensive right now. The names sound similar but the screen tech is very different.

That's what I get for commenting before coffee!

Still waiting for a reason to upgrade my Series 4. If there's barely a change this year and my battery goes even more, I'll just not wear a watch before buying the Series 9.

Agreed! I was hoping for a big upgrade like that this year. My Series 4 is doing so well that I haven‘t upgraded.
Apple Watch Ultra is a beast. Definitely worth an upgrade and you will notice a huge difference. In 2023, It will be an S year for Apple Watch Ultra. I have a feeling Apple AWs will be getting the CPU upgraded at least.

I applaud your politeness 🥰

The spring 2025 timing from Young is questionable because Apple has long introduced updated Apple Watch models in the fall alongside new iPhones, and there is nothing to suggest the company will move away from that timeline in the next two years.

Spring 2025 makes perfect sense if you realize it's the 10 year anniversary of the original Apple Watch release.

This MicroLED model is going to be the Apple Watch equivalent of the iPhone X.

Most importantly, this is additional confirmation that Apple is indeed pursuing microLED for future Apple Watch models.

I think this also means we won't be seeing any major redesigns on the Apple Watch before 2025.

2023 or 2024 will probably bring a new chip, maybe 5G (for coverage reasons), and some other tweaks but it's likely just gonna be incremental updates until they release the Apple Watch X.

Battery life has improved by a lot with an Apple Watch Ultra tho. You can easily get 3 days on a single charge.
Is that with cellular turned on?

I’m starting to hate VR glasses now. Apple shouldn’t take its focus away from its existing product lineup. Small Incremental upgrades yet prices will stay the same or get higher.
You would think Apple could afford to pay for a few extra engineers to work on both projects? 😉

I could see where VR would be helpful for true professionals working with things like Pro Logic and whatever else all day, but for the average population, PSVR2 is good enough.

Yes sir, with cellular turned on. If you turn off the "Fitness Tracking" feature you can really get a good boost in battery life. It's just amazing. I've been upgrading my Apple Watch since S3 back to back every year and AW Ultra is beyond impressive.

Pickup a Series 8 and you would gain:
  • Always-On Display
  • Larger Display
  • Brighter Display
  • Blood Oxygen Sensor
  • Temperature Sensor
  • Car Crash Detection
  • Compass and Altimeter
  • Fast Charging
  • 2x Storage (32 GB)
  • Faster Chip
  • UWB Chip
  • 5Ghz WiFi
  • Bluetooth 5.3
  • International Roaming
  • On-Screen Keyboard
Collectively that seems like a decent upgrade?

I can see what you're talking about but are you really bringing the display that close to your face often?

Maybe it's worth getting the bigger size lol
