Apple could release a redesigned Macbook Air that boots to either OS X or iOS with a touch screen and a 180 degree hinge for roughly the same price as the Pro and its keyboard, and bring this conversation to an end.
If I want a great portable laptop, I can buy a MacBook Air 11 with 128 GB on sale at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago for $900. If I want an ultra light tablet, I can buy a base ipad mini for $330. Total $1230
Or, I can buy the Pro for $1000 (128GB) plus $130 Keyboard. Total $1130. It's either a very heavy tablet or a lap-incompatible laptop, with crummy battery life. If this is truly a mobile device, battery life is very important. It was really one of the features that made the ipad so wildly popular.
I get that people want to run full desktop apps on their tablet. I love the idea too. The problem is that the UI is all wrong. Most desktop apps are terrible to use with touch, especially on a small screen.
With cloud syncing of most commonly used data, email, calendar, docs, etc, there isn't much advantage in merging two devices (tablet and laptop) into one.
Seriously, Windows 8 start screen is very very ugly, Metro UI for desktop PC is a bad idea. I guess Microsoft UI designer must be inspired by Bauhaus art.
If you knew about Windows 8 you'd know it comes with built in anti virus.
And iOS is beautiful with it's dated rows of icons?

You're going to accept Microsoft "criticisms" from a guy who calls himself Apple-Win on a forum?![]()
Oh, so McAfee, Norton, and others are going out of business? I am pretty sure they will want you to use their product plus what ever built in protection Microsoft provides.
I really wish someone would make a tablet that works WITH my desktop.
My vision?? I'd imagine a powerful iMac type PC that can run the latest games... and the screen was touchscreen. When I'm on the go... I can pull up my tablet next to my PC... then SWIPE the entire screen over to my tablet and BOOM goes the dynamite... everything that was on my desktop is NOW ON MY TABLET!!! Any documents, emails, or even games that I was playing is now running exactly the same on my tablet.
When I get back home and want to continue working on my desktop, SWIPE and my desktop is exactly what my tablet was just showing.
If I want both my tablet AND my computer to be running the same exact thing.. then I take two fingers together, swipe them apart and BAM! both devices are running the exact same thing!
Now THAT is the future I want for tablets!!
And iOS is beautiful with it's dated rows of icons?
I like Bauhaus and mid century modern. But the art style does not look good on Windows 8 UI.Better Bauhaus then Hundertwasser or Picasso for a UI ,
Hundertwasser as architecture is interessting though

Seriously how much work could you get done on a 10" laptop screen?
Probably about as much as you can get done on the 11" MBA.
You realise most updates simply replace files, yes? Granted, sometimes they can be a few kb or even a couple of mb larger, in other cases they can be smaller, but no different to Apple's OS X updates.
But 11 is more than 10.
Well, that is not my experience with a Windows desktop. Everytime an update happens to my computer it surely eats up some space. Try installing Windows from scratch and run the Windows updates afterwards. Let me know what you see.
What direction is that?
The iPad has this feature over a dozen keyboards to choose from.
Never had a problem with pages.
I'm on the iPad 1 right now. Half baked I think not.Microsoft definitely is getting into the market before it has fully matured; however it is introducing a fairly novel concept that distinguishes it from the competition. I think this will pay dividends when the Surface 2 comes out. One must admit the first iPad was kind of half baked as well.
