Watches in general, and titanium watches in particular, are a poor choice for people with high levels of ocd.

The bezel on the Ultra has a fine chamfered edge that will absolutely get chewed up in normal use.

My Omegas, any one of which is worth more than all the Apple Watches I have ever owned combined (every series from 0 on, in stainless or DLC stainless) are all scratched to some degree. Except for perhaps a RADO, this is universal and expected.
I agree. However, as this watch is quite thick and a different shape and colour than my Omega Seamaster and Hamilton etc., scratches may be more visible or more unappealing as they do not blend as much as scratches and nicks do in the silver finish of my non smart watches.

I noticed two tiny factory marks. It disgusts me there are but patience, I am sure that who more or less will have something, it's all up to the obsession of the owner

The Apple Watch Ultra is my first Apple Watch that is NOT DLC coated. I’ve owned Series 0 - 7 with either Stainless Steel or Titanium with ‘space black‘ which has a diamond like coating. Looking at one year old silver SS or silver Titanium watches, I definitely never had the level of scratches any of those owners did. I fully expect the Ultra in bare titanium to look very beat up after a year but my hope is next year we get an AWU in space black titanium with a carbon alpine strap and I’ll buy it without pause.
Ya, I've never subscribed to the idea that scratches give a watch character. I still have the very first Black DLC coated SS watch and it has a few little scratches on the clasp of the link band where my wrist rests on my desk, but other than that it's pretty pristine.

I really like the Ultra. It’s a much needed change of pace, but hearing about various scratches from owners with light usage in less than a day are concerning as is the durability of the GPS/Cellular band material.

I love the durability of the SS model (owned every year except Series 5 ceramic which was also flawless). For SS if there are any issues I just buff them out with a cape cod cloth.

I’m gonna give it the rest of the weekend, but I may just decide to keep my Hermes SS7 and save some money for once.

You will be very sad if you ever purchase a non-space-black watch, then, presuming you don’t live in a bubble!

Yeah it's metal, it'll scratch. I kinda new it would happen but thought being extra careful would stop it happening, but this scratch caught my eye this morning. I don't know how it happened and I'm now a bit torn on whether I want to keep it.
I've had Space Black watches from the start until Graphite replaced it and am used to my watch staying pristine.

I feel a bit silly as it's a metal watch that will scratch and mark but it's a new £850 watch that I'd prefer to look mint.
Anyone else scratched up their Ultra yet?

Pretty sure you can polish scratches out of titanium with a metal polish.

I've had the ceramic version of the watch in the past... That surface, IMO, was the most durable of any AW. I could destroy an aluminum watch over the course of a few months, not so with the ceramic.

Too bad they didn't opt for that with the Ultra.

The Ultra was designed as a tool, not a piece of “jewelry”. I fully expect to see scratches over time and that is fine with me. My S7 Ti has a couple but I have to look for them, and I suppose I could buff them out as demonstrated by multiple posts here I. The past.
We are all different so everyone just do what they feel is right for them.

That wouldn’t bother me so much. It does give me concern though.

I workout a lot and end up banging my watch every year at some point. With the 7 it scraped some of the paint off. Not really noticiable except to me but it annoyed me.

What will you do when you return it and the next one gets scratched? It will get scratched its a tool watch and when used as intendsd expect scratches etc..

These days it costs about the same for a pair of prescription eyeglasses with decent frames as the Ultra watch. No matter how careful you are, glasses eventually get scratched or slightly damaged in some way. You do not see people walking around with plastic or Tupperware cases on them while wearing them to avoid these issues. Use the item as intended and live with the possible consequences.

Love a good bit of common sense. I’ve an old mechanical Tag that was very expensive too and by the time I stopped wearing it, it was covered in scratches. But they all merged together to give it some character.

Except when they wear safety goggles over their glasses LOL

It was my understanding that scratches on titanium could relatively easily get removed/polished. Is that true?

I dropped my Ultra today (already) on the bathroom tiles, from quite high up as I was trying to put it back on while standing up, after coming out of the shower. It landed with the screen facing straight down. I’m quite surprised, screen is totally fine, no dent in the titanium and just some barely noticeable scratches at the top right edge of the screen/case.

This is similar to when people were returning their Midnight MacBook Airs because of fingerprints on the lid.

If you’re buying this is as a dress watch to wear like it’s Rolex, then yes, you should probably return it. I don’t think the target demographic for this watch is going to mind a few scratches.

This video is quite impressive, I didn’t expect it to be this robust

I refuse to click on mindless videos like that. (I don’t plan to test my Supra by driving it into a phone pole, either.)

That's true, although I will probably never do that. I've actually upgraded the watch itself once and still have the original band. I love titanium, but I would never buy it as I would have it scratched up in a minute.
