Blindfolded assumption time at MR. Which core values do you think are represented by Ted Lasso, See and for all mankind?
I believe that core value would be "quality production". Which, hey, if you are into that sort of thing, you do you.

Probably a test to see if it works.I am also confused why this is US only? It cannot be any kind of rights issues.
That's why they got an Oscar for CODA, 14 Emmy wins, "was recognized as the most-winning streaming service by the Hollywood Critics Association"
Season 2 emphasized comedy less and had more serious content than season one. How many shows are there out there dealing with mental illness?
In terms of production quality, and some of the shows, it may replace HBO as the highest quality steaming service. HBO still does have some good ones - Hacks, His Dark Materials, but AT&T got rid of Richard Piepler (Game of Thrones) who is now at Apple.
As with most services there are exceptional shows and some not so.
I agree. It lets people go at their own pace, too. That's my problem with free trials. You only have X number of days to make a decision and often times you need more time. Removing the time pressure lets people find and get into a show at their own pace. I think that lack of pressure will actually make people more likely to subscribe.
To be fair, Apple TV+ at $4.99/month is pretty cheap compared to everything else. Given the limited amount of content, I think they are pricing it quite fairly.
$4.99 was just OK. It’s now $6.99 which is overpriced in my opinion.I agree. It lets people go at their own pace, too. That's my problem with free trials. I really enjoyed season 1 of Ted Lasso. It wasn't amazing, but it was fun, good characters, a classic underdog story, etc. Season 2 lost me about halfway. I also liked Tehran. I enjoyed the first season more. Neither season comes close to Fauda on Netflix, though. That's my opinion of Apple shows in general. I've enjoyed some of them, but even the ones I've enjoyed most seem weak compared to shows of a similar genre on other services.

As for "core values", I hear that a lot but I wonder if people who parrot that sentiment have ever watched an Apple TV show. To me this critique essentially translates to I only want to see white straight people on the screen. When I consider all of the Apple TV shows I've watched, I don't see any common "core values" on display. I don't see Apple pushing any kind of agenda across their programming. I do see better representation of previously marginalized groups, something I fully support.
Probably because season 2 is not yet available.Surprised 'Severance' isn't the list.
To anyone who hasn't seen it: cough up for a single month of ATV+ just for Severence. Best thing I've seen on TV in years.
True. I think they should get rid of the time limit and just make the first few episodes of every show free to watch. Let people get invested and they'll want to subscribe. This promotion also has a time limit, free streaming ends January 3rd.
I'm on an Apple One family plan, so I didn't realize they'd upped the price. Still inexpensive, for sure, but I think being under $5 had a positive psychological impact. Somehow that extra $2 feels a lot more expensive.Price is now $6.99/month. Still inexpenisve, though.
$4.99 was fair I think. It also had the positive psychological effect of being under $5. I don't think they've added enough content to justify price increases. They don't have any "must see" shows. None of their shows has created a buzz. I've enjoyed the ones I've watched, but none of them really stand out. I continue to find much better shows on Netflix.$4.99 was just OK. It’s now $6.99 which is overpriced in my opinion.
Season one was fantastic. They actually had a story to tell and it got me right in the heartstrings.
Season two is just one long virtue signal with a few lame jokes thrown in. Nothing there worth watching.
This tells me that you didn’t watch the actual season.I know the second season of Ted Lasso was unwatchable. There was no more story. All that season was about is that women are better than men. Especially if they are older, younger, or a different color than Ted Lasso.
But it's funny I think we barely paid for it. There always seems to be some promo, even for existing. Wanted to watch Spirited, so I'm like, OK let's find a promo. Groupon two months ATV+ for $0. Gonna go get some Cracker Jacks when that expires and hope.$4.99 was just OK. It’s now $6.99 which is overpriced in my opinion.
unfortunately, when people talk about “core values”, it’s usually exactly what you’re saying. By "core values" are you implying some sort of liberal bias?Desperate times call for desperate measures.
The streaming market is crowded and Apple wants people to pay for an anaemic service where every programme has to be about promoting Apple's 'core values.'
This tells me that you didn’t watch the actual season.
Sure, the second season is not as good as the first season.
But both of these descriptions are so far off it’s laughable.
Women are better than men? Where is this said anywhere?
In season 2, isn’t it a woman who’s having a moral dilemma over to date someone 30 years younger than her or not?
In the show, isn’t it a woman who almost gets Beard robbed?
As for the thing about “a different color than Ted Lasso”, I think that’s *your* interpretation.
Outside of the bad company ruining the environment being dumped by the team as their main advertiser, which was a C plot in one episode of the season before basically never being mentioned again, there’s almost nothing about color in the show.
I mean there are characters that are different races, and have different backgrounds, but if that bothers you, that says more about you than it does the show.
Personally, I thought the bigger issues with the second season than you’re non-issues were the terribly slow pacing, the fact that basically nothing happens throughout the first half, the two weird momentum stopping episodes that were inserted at the last minute that had nothing to do with the episodes around them, and the strange inconsistencies in the characters, especially Roy and Nate who seemed to flip-flop depending on the episode.
By "core values" are you implying some sort of liberal bias?
Frankly, I want Apple to stop knee-capping its customers with non-upgradable and non-repairable tech. TV+ be damned.
But I have no problem with Apple platforming core values that preach diversity and inclusivity. If any of you get riled up because Apple is exercising a healthy editorial bias in their content... well, you can take a long walk off a short pier.
Lol. Now that you’ve been called out, you play the victim card. People who use the term “core values” like you did are the ones signaling. Maybe you should explain what “values” you find so objectionable. What a stretch. You know nothing about me or the racism that I've experienced or especially the racism my parents experienced when they came to the UK. You throw out the words 'diversity and inclusivity' to signal to others that you are a good person and that anybody else with a different opinion isn't. Quite simply, the conversation is far more nuanced and you assume a criticism about the way things are done at Apple is race related simply because you are hurt that somebody would criticise Apple? Don't make up accusations about me again.
As the old proverb goes, "A man who looks for problem will be sure to find one."To be very clear I have no issues with race, except when it seems jammed in as an issue for no reason.
Having equality for job opportunities is not the same as clumsy messaging and forbidding creators from certain tonal content.Lol. Now that you’ve been called out, you play the victim card. People who use the term “core values” like you did are the ones signaling. Maybe you should explain what “values” you find so objectionable.
What a cowardly reply. Instead of addressing the issue, you attack me and make assumptions about me. Yes, I’m white. But I’m also gay. I can’t speak to the experience of white privilege, but I sure know all about straight privilege. I also know that when people throw around terms like “values”, it’s almost always code for homophobia and transphobia.Having equality for job opportunities is not the same as clumsy messaging and forbidding creators from certain tonal content.
I know your type, privileged white who believes he can tell off people who've experienced racism simply because he adopts an indignant tone. You are the real problem. I am now going to block you.
If you can, let me know what you think of Spirited. I usually don’t like musical comedies but I may give it a try.But it's funny I think we barely paid for it. There always seems to be some promo, even for existing. Wanted to watch Spirited, so I'm like, OK let's find a promo. Groupon two months ATV+ for $0.
