Has anyone on here recently taken the plunge and bought themselves their first Apple watch? Hopefully the series 6? This is what I am intending to do!

Any feedback/comments would be gratefully received :)

£509 is a lot of dough to splash for me when I own a Omega already (and yes an iphone).

#1 - Illegitimi non carborundum - ignore the pedants.

#2 - Purchase from a place which has a good return policy just in case it isn't what you hope for it to be

#3 - While seeming contradictory to #2, give it some time. For battery life to settle in, for your fascination with the new toy to lessen so you're not using every minute running down the battery, for you to learn about new/different stuff you can do with it, etc.

#4 - Have proper expectations. The Apple Watch is an extension of the phone, not a replacement. Expect to charge it once a day -- I have the charger puck set up at my bedside table. I put the watch on it when I go to bed, I take the watch off when I get up. Very rarely do I ever need to do any charging during the day - usually only if I did a very long run and plan to be out that evening - in which case I charge the watch while I clean up after the long run.

#5 - Avail yourself of whatever watchOS7 tutorials you can find. Try all the apps. (uninstall those you don't need) Just play with it a good bit.

#6 - Remember your phone needs to be at iOS14 else it can't pair with watchOS7 which is what is on the Series6 watches.

ME! I got the AW6️ 44mm in blue and love it!!

I was using a Fitbit Charge 3 previously. The ability to interact with the iPhone properly and not just get notifications is great. I use an app called AutoSleep to track my sleep the same way the Fitbit did. I think the AW6 tracks my steps and floors better.

Everyone here is very helpful if you have questions on how to use it.

I really liked my series 2 and got so much out of it I upgraded to an Apple Watch Series 6 which is great too. Unfortunately I also update to iOS 14 and this has broken the activity app (among other things) so I wish I’d not bothered now. I’d wait until the many many iOS 14 bugs have been sorted

I just got my first, though I've purchased few in the past for others. I got it from a place which has a long return policy because I really need test it out. So far it's working great and I really like it, but I miss my classic watch I wore all the time. I also don't like that I need to charge it, but that's me coming from traditional automatic watches.

My wife and I got Apple Watches after going through 5 fitness trackers in 2 years (3 for her and 2 for me). Figured the AWs with Applecare would be cheaper in the long run. We have both been extremely pleased with them. I consider it the best watch I have ever owned. My wife loves having multiple bands to coordinate with what she’s wearing.

This is my first smartwatch and I initially ordered a few hours after the event. I ended up canceling my order because I realized I wanted the durability of the Titanium version. I wish I knew the Titanium came with a grey sport band of both sizes by default. I had selected it with a black sport band so now I have 2 sport bands and 1 solo loop. I prefer the seamlessness of the solo loop. I also got AppleCare+ for peace of mind.

I also got a steel band from Amazon, and I didn't care for how it pulled hair on my arm a few times. I'm probably going to stay away from metal bands from here on out and dress it up with a leather band instead. I enjoy the look of the Milanese bands, but there are too many horror stories out there that I would not even bother.

Thank you for your reply. I am looking at buying the Nike watch as 1) mainly buying the watch for running and listening to music etc and 2) I like the Nike straps which have the small circular hole design. Allowing the skin to 'breathe'! I think I will pay the extra £100 and go for the cellular. You never know when it might come in handy, and I think it would be a shame not to have this feature.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I hear what your saying about the charging but I own an iphone and am use to the daily charging. It doesn't really bother me, as I just put the device on charge when I go to bed by my bedside table. Then it is all ready to go the following morning when I wake up. I like to think the s6 watch will last me a whole day (including a 60min work out). Interesting about the return policy, where did you buy it from? I would likely buy mine from John Lewis (excellent customer service). That said, once you have worn the device you cannot return it, unless it is faulty.

Thank you for your reply. Surely the ios14 will be sorted out soon? What are your favourite apps? Do you feel 32GB is sufficient storage? I ask as I understand that includes ones music too.

Wonderful! I like the navy colour too but I also like the Nike straps so I am likely going to get the Nike watch. I have never owned a Fitbit, but having been running 3-4 times a week for the last six months and thus would so enjoy having an Apple watch and be free of wires too! Have you got the Airpods Pro out of interest for listening to music whilst using the watch? Regarding the sleeping, I currently use Sleep Cycle on my iphone which is probably not as good as the data the Apple watch tells you, but still interesting. Also it means you don't have to wear the watch when you go to bed. Something I would do. Are you finding the brightness of the screen ok and battery life?

I’m thinking of upgrading from my AW3 - just trying to work out which AW6 and strap to go for. Also not sure whether to go cellular this time around. I can certainly see some advantages.

I’m currently with O2 for my iPhone - do you know if you have to pay an additional monthly fee / have a new contract to have cellular on the watch?

I went for cellular as I thought I’d find it very useful when doing sport. I do a lot of sport, and the truth is that I still take my phone with me pretty much every time. I tried leaving the phone at home, but found the smaller components within the AW meant poorer reception capability when out running/cycling in the countryside. The only time I don’t take the phone is when I’m doing a race.

As you pay extra for the cellular connection (£10/month with EE) I keep on thinking about cancelling it. I haven’t cancelled yet, but it is one of those things I’m monitoring.

Wow ... £10/month ... thanks, that’s very quickly made my mind up for me ... I won’t be going cellular! I pay £15 for 25GB with O2 ... so to add another £10 for the rare occasion it might be useful, would be a bit crazy!

Agreed. Might be worth checking what O2 charge, but I’d imagine it’s similar.

One of those things when if you need it, you’ll wish you had it, but if you just take your phone with you anyway then you’re covered.

I notice that O2 offer a number of options, including the Nike AW6 and 6-SE) with zero upfront if that interested you....

Or you could shop around all mobile providers, as it wouldn’t have to be O2.

Thanks for info. So it looks like £5/m - which is better - and you get 6 months free.

I've always bought my numerous Apple products directly from the Apple store in Brighton - which is only 7 miles from me. Great service and you can return anything within 14 days without question. I did that with an iPad Pro a while back to see if it could replace my ageing Mac Air. I decided I still needed use of a laptop ... so returned the iPad Pro on day 14 ... the chap had a quick look in the box and then sorted my refund.

So I'll need to look into what the tariff would be if I bought the AW6 from Apple - rather than O2.

Thanks again ... looks like I've some different options to consider 👍 I'm currently on a 14 day quarantine having just returned from Crete ... so it will give me something to do 😂

I use the Timer, workout and Stopwatch apps the most. When I first got a series 2 I used the Music app and then, in one the Watch OS updates they removed it and then added it back later. Since then I only use the Now Playing app on the watch to adjust the volume. On the Apple Watch Series 6 I now have I haven’t really tried the Music app much, but it no longer seems to work for music on my phone. Another gift from iOS 14 perhaps. Adding Music to the watch is on an album by album basis. You can’t add an Artist. I’ve changed the setting to Recently Played in the hope they will transfer over to my Watch, though I admit, this is more about testing what works and what doesn’t work. I don’t think I’d ever use the Music app again. It seems to me to be too much hardwork and fiddly and, even when it did work when I got my first Apple Watch I used it more for the novelty of it rather than it being helpful or useful. Messages on the Watch are handy but I hardly ever reply using the watch. I’ve started using Wallet on the watch a bit more but the position of some card readers in shops mean it’s much quicker and easier to use the phone. I find Siri fairly useless but have found it handy on the watch sometimes for starting a timer or setting a reminder. It’s always been there but I want to use the voice recorder more for notes or ideas.

I have a series 5 cellular which was purchased outright for me as a present from my wife.
On O2 I pay £5 per month for the cellular connection, Vodafone I believe are £7. EE at £10 is just crazy!
