I like the screen off as well so the always on feature is a downside as opposed to being a positive major breakthrough feature, the battery life should be better on the series 5 overall but yeah I’m keeping my series 4 SS Hermes 44mm for another year as I see no reason to upgrade whatsoever, perhaps series 6 will bring more innovation

Kinda...kinda not. I mean, what were you expecting the Apple should add to not make it an ‘S’ model? I think the always on display, they double the storage, offering new casings, new bands, compass, offer some nice upgrades. I’d say it also depends what model someone is upgrading from as well.

The always on display, from everything published so far, is utilizing the same display technology that's in the S4. Double the storage is perhaps the only actual thing different from the S4 in this case. The new casings have nothing to do with internals and the bands can be purchased by anyone.

I have purchased a new Apple Watch every time a new one came out, each one seemed so much better, this one not so much. The watch is so new I would think they could have innovated better to force me to upgrade.

Anyone else upgrade every time and not upgrading this time? Always on just doesn't do it for me, I guess it's great but I actually like that my watch goes off when I don't need it, I'm odd I guess:confused:

Next years Apple Watch will hopefully be a BIG jump.
I have a feeling the watch market has now matured. It only took 4 years! Incremental upgrades. Health focused upgrades but unless you have major health conditions like diabetes I find it hard to be a compelling upgrade. Camera on your phone? Please! Who cares! BP? Ummmm unless you have health issues or older is this something that’s truly necessary.

Always on is a great upgrade imho. Sleep tracking? There’s sleep tracking apps already it’s ok. But no killer feature.

I love the exercise stuff though. But buy one and you are done (unless the watch detects you lifting up a hamburger or pizza or other unhealthy food and it SHOCKS YOU and Siri talks and reminds you you are fat and need to put down the hohos).

Ok, I’d love an Apple Watch Apple data plan that’s more affordable! Like $1 a month! Maybe if Apple can slings messages and info from your iPhone connected to WiFi or cellular and slings it to the watch. And the watch slings your messages and responses back to your watch.

There is not a day that goes by, post announcement, that I am thinking about the S5 watch.

However, as a SS S4 owner, I can't justify plopping down another $800 (with an additional $240 trade-in discount) to buy a watch whose only new function is to stay on.

A little more innovation would have tipped me over the edge. However, to pay that kind of price for another watch that is essentially the same as the S4 is just not something I can bring myself to doing.

I was tempted but, my SS SB Series 4 is immaculate and works perfectly and Always on was not enough to do it.

If they'd added the ability to take additional sensors directly, such as stryd and bluetooth bike sensors then I'd have jumped at it. Even if they added FirstBeat training data... Apples VO2 data seems a little off... well, a lot off at times.

On a positive note, it does mean I'll have more spare cash for some of those straps

Always on and 32 GB of storage (up from 16 GB) are good reasons for many to get a Series 5.

But I kept my Series 0 for three years . . . .

I bought my Series 3 in 2018 (wanted cellular). Now, I'm getting the Series 5 because I want the fall detection.

I fail to see why that much memory matters.

Have a Series 4, not excited about the 5 (always on would be great though) so will wait until next year.

I am with you . I got the stainless steel now and like the gold color with the Milanese band . I don‘t want to spend $800 again . And the Apple trade in is not much . I may look at it later in the store and perhaps decide to get it after all.

I am on Series 0. I wanted the sleep tracking but the longer battery life is exactly what I wanted the most. Hoping I can get that by turning the always-on feature off.

Apple want everyone to upgrade yearly for everything, the vaaaast majority do not, and they know this.

The S5 is a classic “just enough for those who want this specific feature” over last years, just like S2 to S3.

I skipped the S3 because I don’t care about cellular, still don’t. Whereas I’ve ordered a S5 because I’ve wanted an always on screen above any other upgrade. I’m still surprised it’s a thing and my wallet is hurting, but I’m nonetheless very pleased.

It's not even an S model, there is no upgraded chipset. I think the S5 is simply a placeholder model like the iPhone 11. The real changes will be either next year or the year after.

Is there such a thing as Apple product release sadness? For the time ever, I do not have any envy for the new products.

The S4 turned out to be the perfect time to buy the watch.
