I was wondering, that you know, you may want to go... well you're free to say 'no'. Well. Uh. I was wondering if you may wanna go watch it with me. You're free to say 'no'

Looks great, but I've already read the biography, so I doubt I'll see this one. Steve Jobs has a really interesting life story. Good thing they dropped the name "jOBS".

Typeface isn't a pressing issue...

GET OUT!

Heh, Jobs reminds me of Captain Kirk. Every time the engineering sector claims that they can't do something or that the ship won't hold up, Kirk just says "I don't care, just do it", and they end up doing it anyway. I remember Jobs forcing his engineers to make rounded rectangles. "Rectangles with rounded corners are everywhere!"

amazing ! from the trailer the movie look very true how they introduce steve not overreacting i like it!

I'm sorry but Ashton Kutcher playing Steve Jobs? Really? Ashton's roles have been too frivolous in the past compared to this.

Dunno, too much 'Ashton Kutcher looking like Steve Jobs' than actually Steve Jobs. I think they should have gone with a less familiar actor.

Its just that Kutcher voice takes away the realism, he doesn't sound like jobs at all (which is obvious) but its just a bit off for me...

I just wish they chose a different actor with more charisma for Jobs (and Woz also). Robert Downey Dr. makes a good Larry Ellison (Iron Man), but Ashton Kutcher can't portray the the wit and quickness of Jobs.

Ashton Kutcher? uh-ugh! Especially not right before watching the real Steve Jobs movie that's coming out later. Do yourself a favor and pass.

Huh...no. It's still Ashton Kutcher - therefore it is CRAP.

Like others my main issue is the voice. It does not sound like Jobs and has that Kutcherish mid-west wanna be hip sound to it. Nothing like the real Jobs IMO. Could have a used a better voice coach.

I lose it when he says "I'm gonna make Apple cool again". It looks alright, but he really doesn't sound like Jobs and it seems that they're overdramatizing certain facts such as his love life.

Second, I saw "The Butterfly Effect" and it did nothing to change my mind that Kutcher is not an actor.

Not even close...

Guys, I really cannot understand what your problem with Kutcher and his role in this movie is... really. I saw him just once in Butterfly Effect in which he acted pretty well IMO. I was impressed after seeing the Jobs-trailer yesterday how similar he looks to Steve Jobs in some scenes. It is not perfect, that may be right, but what exactly have you expected from this movie? Kutcher having a facial surgery for the movie or what? Jesse Eisenberg in Social Network doesn't look like Mark Zuckerberg. And in Pirates of Silicon Valley (IMO a bad movie) Noah Wyle doesn't look at ALL like Steve. But I think, they did a great Job with Kutcher acting Jobs!

My biggest issue is the choice of actors.

110%.

I wont be watching. I can handle that actor in a light comedy, but not in a movie about Mr Jobs.

(Oh, that's not fan worship btw... Steve was great yay but he's no god. Probably just still miffed they didn't get Noah "back".)

Idk what problems you are having in Europe, but in the U.S things are fine. And yes considering the entire developed world is in Europe + America that would mean everyone uses an Apple product. Don't deny it, just don't. I also don't get where you got the impression that anyone thought steve jobs had the morals of the world at heart. Nobody who knows anything about them would insinuate that. So why you're bringing it up, idk. Also, Steve wasn't an almighty, he can't make sure everything's perfect, not to mention he's not around anymore. Get over it.

You are clearly a case of the typical american thinking they are of higher grade on the humanity list. You do know the US is not a planet on its own do you? (might be hard to explain that to you guys)

You just don't get it do you? i never said SJ had the morals of the world at heart, i said that with this movie they try and make it look so. they try to paint a perfect picture of the guy...

And as you said you just don't know how Apples policies work in Europe and you obviously don't live in Europe so there goes your theory of thinking that Everyone in the so called developed world owns at least one Apple product. I know loads of people whom don't have a mac, iphone or whatever Apple product...there are other big players whom offer technology.

Its also fairly arguable if the western world is to be called developed, but thats another discussion.

Trailer looked all right actually. I probably will watch it to see if Ashton pulls it off.

Apart from Steve Jobs, I am curious as to who will play Jonny Ive. That will be interesting. Anyone know?

That line was great. I really miss my old "Helvetica Bold should lighten up" t-shirt.

Actually looks pretty good I thought - I think there's maybe been a degree of seeing this one as being over shadowed by Sorkin's movie, but from that trailer think it looks well worth a look.

Ultimately, whatever anyone's knowledge of or interest in Apple and Jobs, its just such an incredible story.

From that trailer, I agree. Even from that he seemed to have some of Jobs' little nuances down pretty well. That line above about the typography was great, the shot at the end with Jobs' reflection in the back of the iPod was great. If that sort of stuff is indicative of the movie as a whole, it looks like it could be pretty sharply written and observed.

Kutcher's resemblance to Jobs...or lack of resemblance is, for me, irrelevant. My comment was regarding Kutcher's acting talent, or lack thereof.

Certainly I acknowledge to each his own, but comparing Kutcher's purported acting ability to an actor with real skills and, IMO, Kutcher comes up appallingly short.

Actually, "short" overstates his skills. ;)

oh, so youve seen the full feature and can comment on it? or are you just making a quick judgement based on a 2-minute trailer like the rest of us?

I am judging from the trailer, plus the other films of Kutcher that I have sen (most of which I enjoyed). Kutcher is good in light-hearted movies, but I just can't imagine him conveying the intensity of Jobs, and the trailer does nothing to disabuse me of that belief. Thus I cannot help but wondering whether other actors would be better at playing the role of Jobs - Christian Bale comes to mind, but I am sure others have other actors they would think would be better suited. In fact this topic might be worth its own thread. :p

Shrink...PLEASE give it a rest. You have posted over and over again the exact same thing. You don't like Kutcher...we get it!!!

looks good. but i can only see us geeks getting hyped up over it. i don't see my parents or friends getting excited over it.

After seeing the trailer of Jobs, I am not much interested in the movie. But Pirates of Silicon Valley is a great movie about Jobs. Noah Wyle rocks. I would like to see Pirates of Silicon Valley on iTunes.

Well said!

I'm going to add....that I think Ashton Kutcher is a douchebag. :D

Comparison to "Pirates of Silicon Valley"

I think this movie lends itself to some obvious comparisons to "Pirates of Silicon Valley." It covers almost exactly the same time period in Steve Jobs' life (1971 to 2000), minus 50% of the movie focusing on Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. I think it looks like a GREAT movie for those of us who are Apple "enthusiasts" (i.e., fanboys), but may be 6 or 7 out of 10 for the general public or the pretentious movie critics who only seem to appreciate movies with social lessons, and specifically lessons which are consistent with their political agendas.

That explains why "Man of Steel" is rated 8.1/10 on IMDB, but only 56% at Rotten Tomatoes. Fans love action-packed movies about Superman, but critics see it as just another summer blockbuster which screws up the original mythology of the character they only understand from the Donner/Reeve original movie. They have no appreciation for often rebooted and reimagined history of the character after 75 years in comic books and other media. Similarly, these critics only understand the Steve Jobs portrayed in news media and MAYBE Isaacson's book (for those who read it).

Yes, Ashton Kutcher is a douchebag and a mediocre actor, but no one can really say that he doesn't resemble Steve Jobs. Continuing with my analogy, he was chosen for the same reason that Christopher Reeve and now Henry Cavill were chosen to be Superman. Sure, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Daniel Day Lewis are better actors, but they would still be less believable as either Superman or Steve Jobs. Even Noah Wyle, who did a great job in "Pirates of Silicon Valley", does not look as much like Steve Jobs as Kutcher does.

So, accept the actors who were chosen, and try to watch the movie with an open mind. Personally, I'm very excited to see it and I'm glad they're finally releasing it!
