So this...this is something i had to think twice about. Literally, thinking at two different times. I watched the clip this morning and thought "eeek he's so...ashton kutchery! Man's got the Jobs look down but the voice and personality? No. This is gonna be ****".

It's hard to escape past memories of an actor when watching something new like this. I watched this a second time today and sat down and thought...judging from only this 1 minute clip, this isn't a bad performance. If i didn't already have a history of seeing Ashton on punked and that 70's show and all that, i wouldn't have had such an "eeeek" reaction. Combining the past goofy acting gigs ashton's had in memory with the strong personality i know of the actual jobs, that's what gave me that "this is ****" reaction.

In the clip he sounded passionate and intelligent and that he was...discovering something special that could change the world. Alot of people will stop and have my first reaction and never give this movie a chance. I'll go into it trying to forget the bias i have against the lead actor and try to enjoy it for what it is. I never thought Heath Ledger could be a joker. I thought it was crazy to cast Robert Downey as Iron Man. I'll reserve judgement til i've seen for myself, because first impressions are like incomplete ideas in the head. It's literally judging a book by it's cover without opening it and discovering depth

Can't people come up with anything else other than criticizing Ashton's acting skills based on a 1 minute movie clip?

no! cause that one minute clip coupled with his past performances ,you can get a really good idea where this is going . example : when I seen a one minute clip of The Fighter I did not see or hear Christian Bale , I only saw the character he was playing . never did Batman or Christian Bale come to mind.

No they are basing his acting on history of acting abilities, he is a man who is good looking, simple. He is not an actor, he started his career modeling. Kutcher is a joke, this film is a joke. This will films only job is to generate revenue not tell a story.

Sure, I have seen plenty of tv shows and movies with him to be able to judge his acting skills. He will always be Kelso from That 70's Show .. sorry.

Did you click the comments link expecting everyone to post they have no firm opinion as they have not seen the whole film yet? For better or worse people form opinions based on whatever small snippet you give them.

Hmmm, I dunno, watch it again, I thought that his voice sounded a lot like Steve's, actually.

Also, I'm surprised that I didn't hate it, the article at Entertainment Weekly said that Kutcher really immersed himself in the role, a claim which the clip seemed to back-up, for me at least. :)

have you seen a lot of ashton kutcher films/comedy? Maybe if I had not seen him in so many other things I could get past it, but I still think of the same person from Dude where's my car.

Should've gotten Daniel Day Lewis....if he can do Lincoln's voice to perfection, he could do Steve's.

EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, so could Tom Cruise. *Ya I know I know, but think about it for a second*

Would have been better off going with some no name guy to take on the roll. Would have felt more authentic. Kutcher is doing okay, and I'll see the movie, but he's got too much of his own presence based on previous stuff to convince Apple people that they're watching Steve Jobs on screen. :apple:

Agreed, it's as if you're mixing 50% Ashton Kutcher and 50% steve jobs. He sounds and talks too much like himself.

Still I can see myself "subtracting" the Ashton Kutcher from the character and seeing what he was trying to convey with a few more minutes of video...

Was Steve always that dramatic? I felt he wouldn't for example turn to the car and put his arms on it in desperation in real life. I felt he always knew people around him were less visionary so he knew how to lead them to his vision. He wouldn't act like "Woz how do you not get this?" as Ashton did in the last part of this.

What do you think?

funny the reactions people are giving this clip as if its anything different or new.
also, im sure if anyone of these people on the forums were around back then and say steve or woz, they dismiss them completely the same way theyre dismissing how genius or inaccurate these guys are in portraying this role

Looks and sounds like Ashton Kutcher in the role of Ashton Kutcher.

Yeah, the original still shot looked really good, but the actual movie clip not so much.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to the Aaron Sorkin penned movie a lot more.

The difference is that Robert Downey is absolutely awesome. We didn't know how he would play it, but as soon as I saw him as Tony Stark it was over. Now, it's hard to imagine anyone ELSE being Iron Man.

I'm reserving judgement on Kutcher here too, but don't have great expectations for this movie.

What do you think?

I think it is going to be a comedy classic.
Too bad MADTV isn't around to do a send up.
Can't wait for the Youtube parodies.

Steve: I'm going to change the world.
Woz: Great. But not unless you shut up and hand me the soldering gun. Geez.

Hmm, disappointing. Woz looks funny and Ashton hasn't got Steve's character quite right, as others have said - perhaps too dramatic? Steve could get dramatic, but not "Ashton Kutcher dramatic".

You (and others) need to let go of things like height. Seriously? It's a movie. Based on the life of people. IE - Is Meryl Streep the same height as Thatcher?

I totally understand that... but... when you make a movie about people that millions upon millions of people already know what a person looks like... it does become more important, and the lack of resemblance could distract you from the story being told.

You cant do Abraham Lincoln without a beard.
