omg if apple doesn't release the MB core 2 duo soon I might have to buy a pc! 😱

Sadly we've reached the point where it's impossible to tell if posts like this are serious or satire.

To order or not to order. That is the question here. I need a MacBook Pro. But I do not like to order and a day later they release the new ones.

Are there any news here? I do not see any signs on the Apple site. Nothing in the war of press releases....

Be patient. They are most likely going to upgrade within the next few weeks.

Dang! No updates today. I wanted an updated MacBook for this weekend. The store lists everything except the MacBooks as shipping in 24hrs. Macbooks are 3-5 days, but no news today, so...

They probably won't update until October, to prep for the Christmas buying season. 🙁

or months... 🙁

Certainly before Christmas, but not real soon....

I guess that depends upon what you mean by "real soon." I've been waiting for merom MBP's since June, so waiting a couple of more weeks does seem real soon to me.

From all we've heard, rumors, speculation, truths and half-truths, everything points to Apple releasing C2D MBP's in the month of September. Couple that with a mac mini refresh at the same time, and it's going to be a fun month for mac fans.

But months? That is highly unlikely. It's always a possibility, but doubtful.

I've been waiting since January...

I've been waiting since around March.

This is incredibly painful.

If I wasn't also facing a move by October it would hurt that much more. At least there's some distraction from waiting for my MBP.

If it's not out in the next two weeks I'm going to be freaking out. If it weren't for OSX and the ability to run multiple OS's I'd be ordering my new PC today.

As soon as Apple releases the Core 2 Duo notebooks, Intel will announce the future release of a Core 3 Duo chip and people will start waiting for that. There's just no winning this game. Buy when you need. You can never stay ahead of the curve.

Intel releases are so fast that the only hope a company has is to release as soon as Intel does (as many pc vendors did on Monday). If Apple doesn't get in the groove pretty soon they will be left behind. Sorry Apple, that is just the way the pc industry is these days. You wanted Intel? Then follow the Intel releases. No excuses.

It's more than that. What I'm reallly waiting for is the RevB. 😎

Apple has dropped the ball, simple as that. There are no more excuses. Now that they're using the same tech as everyone else, excuses such aswaiting for conference X or expo Y just don't jive anymore.

Everyone keeps making the assumption that apple is being left behind simply because Dell, HP, etc. all made announcements yesterday that their C2D systems are available for pre-order.

Really, who cares? Keep in mind that those C2D notebooks and systems that were announced yesterday still aren't going to ship for at least a couple of more weeks. Even if you wanted a PC C2D system, you wouldn't be able to get one today, tomorrow or next week. All the other manufacturers accomplished yesterday was simply to make an announcement. An announcement does not equal availability.

I am almost positive Apple will make their announcement soon as well, and then everyone will be able to take a collective sigh of relief. But don't think that because Apple hasn't announced their C2D, that they're behind--that we won't see their own MBP's and whatever else, shipping in the next couple of weeks as well.

Traditionally, Apple prefers to announce when their new systems are actually available for purchase. Who knows? That could mean that Apple may start shipping before everyone else. We may even see something as simple as a silent update. One day you go to the Apple store, and BAM... new C2D macs!

Again, I stress patience. It's difficult at times, I know. I'm very excited to get a new merom MBP, but we've waited this long, a couple of more weeks hopefully won't cause too much mass hysteria. 🙂

In this case I don't think it's that big of a deal, since Apple will probably ultimately release their Merom machines in the next week or so, but I agree with your point nonetheless. Apple should reserve major announcements for expos and the like, not processor upgrades. The launch of Leopard, a next generation iPod, a comlpetely redesigned iMac/Mac Pro when the time comes, sure - save those for expos and the like. But processor upgrades like these, especially since they will be happening so frequently now, are not "special events" in my opinion. 😎

I don't think Merom is going to be fast enough to make up for 9+ months of non-computing.

You're making an assumption he hasn't had a computer for 9 months? I've been waiting for merom since June, but I've not gone without a computer at anytime since I was a kid. We're waiting for the merom to upgrade from what we already have.

Nobody released machines on Monday. PC makers ANNOUNCED new machines yesterday, they're not shipping yet. Apple doesn't need to "get in the groove" until someone actually ships one of these. Until that happens, they're only "left behind" in the vaporware race.

How exactly is failing to announce machines THAT AREN'T SHIPPING "dropping the ball"? I guess apple should go ahead and announce Core 3 machines, shipping in 2008...just to be "ahead"?

🙄

You know and I know that preannouncing a release is no big deal, but the average consumer doesn't know that. I suspect that to the average consumer it can make a big difference in perception. And preannouncing would be nothing new to Apple; as I recall the MBP was announced long before it actually shipped.

The unknown factor is how Apple is going to respond in keeping up with the Intel updates. We know how Dell and others respond with CPU upgrades. They have a history.

Apple actually has a poor history in this regard. They haven't always given us the fastest chips, nor given them to us in a timely manner. (Remember the Mac IIvx?)

Apple is now on the same field as Dell and the others. They have to establish themselves. They can't juice us as they have in the past.

Sure they can wait two weeks to annouce. It better not be two months.

As you just said, the average consumer doesn't care becuase this kind of stuff doesn't make the evening news. They're especially not going to care about announcements. They're not going to keep up like we do, or even casual computer afficionados do. They're just going to go out and buy a computer whenever they think they need one, and they're not going to pay attention to updates, processors, etc. When they want/need it, they're going to get it with very little research into much more than brand names.
