Just my personal feeling, but as a lifelong runner, I think a run is the time to disconnect from your electronics, your email, and your to do list. If checking your to-do lists mid-stride is your cup of tea then so be it, but it makes me a little sad.

Fortunately, the :apple:watch won't be able to do much of that at all when taken running anyway, unless an iphone is also present. ;)

Exactly. They should include an iPhone strapped to her arm.

It's on her right arm, which means she should have left handed mode on which would require you to flip the watch upside down. This way, the crown would by pointed towards your fingers and not your arm.

Good point....never occurred to me. I'm still thinking of normal watches, it will take a while to get out of that habit of not realising that they can be flipped around.

I think everyone is looking at it as if the :apple:watch is a traditional watch where the face doesn't rotate. On a traditional watch the crown faces the fingers when worn on the left and faces the elbow when worn on the right.

I think it was photographed like that because traditional watches function that way. Plus they wanted to get a good shot of the crown. Like you said, in the real world people will be able to wear the :apple:watch on the right arm with the crown facing the fingers.

Um, she's wearing it backwards. The crown is on the inside of her forearm (should be on the outside but flipped with button for lefties). Guess they wanted the crown in the shot.
I'm a lefty and might wear it like that. My "normal" watch has the crown on the right, so it "looks" ok. To scroll, I might do a sort of over-the-top thing to turn the crown with my left index. I'll try it both ways, of course. It's easy to switch!

My brother is a lefty. He actually buys left handed watches (yes, it's a real thing). On traditional watches the crown is placed on the right side because it's easier to manipulate the crown when the watch is worn on the left because the wrist bends; giving easier access to the crown. Left handed watches have the crown on the left for the same reason

U-Boat's have them facing the elbow when worn on the left wrist. It seemed odd to me the first time I saw one.

I'm a lefty. I've always worn watches on my left wrist. Just because I can't write with my right hand doesn't mean it can't operate a watch (or mouse, trackpad, numeric keypad, phone, etc.)

There is no right or wrong way to wear the watch. There is the "preferred" way. I'm glad the watch can be flipped but even if it couldn't that would not be a deal breaker. I've survived well over four decades in this handist society. I'm sure I can continue to make it.

I'm a lefty, but back when I still wore watches i didn't know this was actually a thing. I used to get somewhat irritated at how the watch interfered whenever I'd be writing.

I hadn't heard the Apple Watch had a lefty mode. I wish they had a lefty iPhone - that'd be of more practical use to me! :D

Huh! You need a gps?... Are you lost when you run? From my own experience, GPS give worse distance readings than the accelerometer; the variance is actually higher.

There is an accelerometer, it takes your pulse and plays music. What else do you need to run. Seriously? Unless your running 10h, you should be covered.

I'm not sure if the apple watch really classifies as apple's first wearable accessory.

I mean even in recent times both the iPod shuffle and the clip iPod nano I would consider as wearables.

It's pretty pathetic how Apple is trying to market their junk as Luxury and Fashionable. Luxury is a fine Swiss watch. Fashionable is not some LCD screen with touch capabilities.

THe watch looks like a hunk of junk. It's clunky, has no inspiration behind it other than the iPhone screen.

Granted it might contain some innovative ways of interacting with a touch device, but that's about as good as it gets.

I'm a die hard Apple fan. I have 8 Airport Extreme routers, 10 Apple Macs of various sorts, three iPads and an iPhone, but this Watch thing makes me want to vomit.

Why not 15 macs, 100 routers and a container full of Iphones... Your enumeration must mean something... Somehow. What?

I always find it funny like having a ton of Mac equipments somehow makes you a specialist on watches, tech, Apple, fashion, marketing, retail or whatever.

Doesn't matter if you like it; the important thing is that enough people that are NOT YOU like it. I'm one of them. So, they only need a few million more.

U-Boats have the crowns on the left for comfort. A U-Boat crown on the right side would literally dig into the wrist. They originally made watches called Lefthooks with japanese movements. Then switched to Swiss movement with their Classico. The crowns are monstrous. A big ass crown on a 53mm U-Boat would be half way up your hand if the crown was on the right.

I think they have very unique styling. If my wrist was big enough, I would add one to my collection. Unfortunately I have the wrist of an anorexic crack addict distance running hunger striker.

----------

Really, I wear mine on the right... And I'm right handed.. Didn't know there was some "rule"... Must have missed the watch wearing course in grade school.

There's no rule per se. There is a valid reason for it as it relates to traditional watches with functional crowns.

Must watch. (Haha). This is all just part of Apple's process of moving from the head, to the heart, to the groin.

So - for whoever said "these posts bring out the teen age" in people.

...they are intended to.

Horsepucky. You can play your tunes and podcasts, and record your cardiac activity, and many other things... more as time goes on and the software developers. But for running, its functionality and light weight will be perfect. Add a lightweight Beats bluetooth headset and it's a pretty great companion for running and other cardio-intensive activities.

I just saw the first Apple watch commercial while watching The Blacklist.

Got Blacklist recording while watching NCAA tournament. Blacklist is one of my favorite shows. Spader is terrific. Psyched to hear him in the A:Age of Ultron. "I was designed to save the world... people will look to the sky and see... hope... I'll take that from the first."

/giggles like school girl.

On topic. The watch commercial has been on pretty steady. I've seen it no less than 5 times.

Tonight's the first time I've seen the watch commercial. I watch The Blacklist to help with my Breaking Bad withdrawal. :D Spader plays a great role.

I am quite often when running on unfamiliar trails.

From my own experience, GPS give worse distance readings than the accelerometer; the variance is actually higher.

Serious question: what experience do you have with running with GPS and accelerometers? I've run many, many miles with both and found the accuracy of GPS watches/phones to vastly exceed that of accelerometer-based solutions (footpads and the like).
