Best utility apps for me are Cyberduck, Little Snitch, NightOwl. Most UI enhancement tools and the like I have not found myself using much after a week or so of trying.

Thanks for this, I’ll be checking out several of the apps in this thread.

For me, the must have app in my menu bar is Alfred. Amazingly useful app. Too many features to list them all, but the most used by me are file search (Spotlight on steroids), snippets, clipboard history, workflows, etc.

Not affiliated, just a happy user.

Nice. Except for those of us who were “early adopters”, I suppose.

well, sadly its impossible to please everyone at once. the really "early adopters" bought MacUpdater back in April 2018 and already had 16 Months of updates for their 10$ :) in any case, we will continue to try to provide a good value for our customers (and free users)!

Interesting selection, thanks.

Background Music looks promising, although I feel at least the basic layer capability of not overlapping audios should be handled by macOS long ago. Don't get me wrong, many props to the dev for the level of audio handling and manipulation provided, more so free!

Check the " issues " on their site first . over 140 reported , including cant completely uninstall - some players wont work at all , etc ....

Background Music distorts my audio (which I output via HDMI) as soon as I start it. It works when I switch to internal speakers. Any suggestions how to fix that?

I'm having the same issue. I output audio via a USB audio interface (Apogee Duet).

What's the difference between Moom & Better Snap Tool (which I've been using for years and his great)?

Question - with MacUpdater, can I turn off "check for updates" on all of my apps? Nothing bothers me more than when I open an application to do some work , and it greets me with "update available, install it or I'm installing ransomware" or some such threat ( I jest ). I really want to get my work done and set aside a specific time to update apps. Ideally when I'm not using them :)

My comment was totally in jest... quite happy with the value that I've received for my $9.99.

I ran MacUpdater , and once I saw what it could do, I was sold. $9.99 is worth the time it will save me.

I noticed that it will not update FileZilla , so I'm dumping FZ for Transmit or Cyberduck. It found some apps that I forgot that I had that I can delete to save space.

Now to go turn off all of those "automatically check for updates so we can interrupt your work" settings on my apps. :D

Yes, thanks for the heads up! I did just that actually and saw the elephant in the room. Not worth installing it as is.

For window management, I'd recommend Keyboard Maestro. It lets you customize Window management exactly how you want it. I spent years being disappointed by window management solutions, oblivious to the fact that Keyboard Maestro allows for this.

Easy Finder doesn't seem that different from the colored tags that are built into Mac Os.

O
EasyFinder for me - I'm always loosing stuff, mostly right when i need it the most.

One app I am loving at the moment is HoudahSpot - great for finding that file you can almost visualise but can't for the life of you find!

If you already have a license of Clean My Mac (latest) it has the same functionality integrated.

Could this have been any more difficult to download? It makes me appreciate the simplicity of the Mac App Store. I'm not a computer guy. It's the reason I use a Mac. I tried to download both Background Music and EasyFinder. I was able to do neither. I went through the steps, but nothing happened. Obviously, I did something wrong, because neither is on my computer now. Unfortunately, they both got my email address - something I hate sharing because then I get inundated with junk mail. This was a frustrating process. It might be helpful to show the download process in the videos. (I know a bunch of computer guys on here will treat me like an idiot now. Good for you.)

All you need to do to download Background Music is click a link where it says "Download" on the website.

https://github.com/kyleneideck/BackgroundMusic/releases/download/v0.2.0/BackgroundMusic-0.2.0.pkg

To download Easy Finder you enter a random e-mail address (like somebody@somewhere.com) and click "Download EasyFinder".

Great to see Macupdater on this list. The developer (no relation) works hard for your one-time $10 payment! Great app and great service.

On the basis of this thread I bought Macupdater. Great little app, and the amazing responsiveness of the developer. The second email I received after a question was so much more than a one-liner. Almost an essay explaining how and why the app works how it does. Couldn't recommend more!
