My power button is also broken, which means if I ever need to reset it I'm screwed.

This girl at the party was saying that she is a realtor and she does A LOT of screenshots to send it to clients. Well, she cannot do it anymore since the power button does not work. I am not sure if there are other ways of taking a screenshot but she did not know any other way.

Never heard about this issue, but friend of the friend of mine that "works" for Samsung said that it is very common issue and it is more like 7 out of 9 or even more that have this problem ;)
Samsung apparently pays him good money, just to post negative messages on Apple and HTC related website forums and he is not alone.
Judging by the number of negative, Apple bashing threads on MacRumors forums he might be correct...

Not sure if you are trying to say something to me but I have been buying Apple products since 2006 and have been mostly happy with it. What I posted is all true, no trolling here. I would not want to waste my time with stupid stuff like that. I think Apple makes the best phones and computers. I probably would not buy any computer other than Apple and I would definitely not buy Samsung phone as I tried it once and to me (meaning it is me, not you) is bad. I would probably buy HTC One as my brother is very happy with it if not Apple but I still think Apple's look and feel is the best. Just these damn power buttons!

I know tons of iPhone users and have not once heard of this issue. Given that the buttons are moving parts, it can be assumed that when abused/used a lot they could fail. Dumb question, why not take the damaged phone in to be repaired rather than make due with a broken phone.

I guess you did not read all my posts.

You maybe did not hear but I am telling you my experience. So, you are saying everybody that have bad power buttons abuse it? How? Like hit it with a hard object instead pushing with a finger? How can you even abuse a button? :)

Edit/Addition: Also if this was only my phone, I would not even open a thread. I opened one because it is ridiculous so many phones have bad power buttons.
If one person dies, it probably won't make the news but if a group of people dies, you can be sure it wil be in the news.

Perhaps your familly are carriers of the "lead-finger" gene. ;)

... jk ... seriously, why not just get them replaced? Apple will mail you a replacement for free, with a free prepaid return box, as long as you're still under warantee. What's the big deal?

He cant whine about it if he just gets it fixed tho.

Again, read my other posts. I am whining because it is BS that so many phones got bad power buttons. If you are a world traveler/leave US for long periods, your solution is no good. Yes, if you live in the US 365 days a year, sure no problem.

I bought nine phones for the whole family. Five of them have bad power buttons.

I was at my brother's b-day party last week. Thirteen people had iPhones. Eight iPhone 5s, five iPhone 4s. Four iPhone 5s had non-working power/stand-by buttons. Two iPhone 4s had non-working home buttons.

My brother bought the new HTC One, he loves it. Others are talking about getting different phones. I am still thinking to buy the next iPhone but if I have the same problem again with the new iPhone 5s/6, then I am sure I will not buy iPhone again.

All were purchased brand spanking new from an Apple Store/Apple.com

What's up with this? Why cannot they make quality phones anymore? I think iPhone 3s were the best ones as far as quality goes.

I have an iphone 5, so does my wife, my brother, his wife, and my cousin.
None of us have any button problems.

Your experience doesn't mean that its a wide spread issue.

The most awesome part of all of this is you can get this fixed. Why say "omg I can't do this, whine whine whine" when you can get your phone fixed?
Good lord.

These things happen.

My iphone5 had the same thing.
I had got it from the apple store, went back in and it was replace within ten minutes.

Happy customer.

Well, the problem is I took them overseas (I will get mine replaced soon) and Apple cannot do anything about them since there are other distributors bringing the iPhone.

I still do think this is a big BS on Apple's side regardless they replace your phone or not. Think about it; you buy your phone and leave the US for a job for 6 months. You are out of luck (using the phone without the power button is very annoying) because they don't replace/repair under the warranty in the country you are in. "Go have it replaced" seems like not a good option if you are not in the US at the time.

Can you read? Honestly. The OP said he is not in the US right now. The only place he could get a replacement is in the US. Phones bought in the US only have warranties for insight the country. Before posting read the whole thread so you don't make stupid post like this.

I agree that it is crappy that so many of the iPhones have this problem. You are not the first person to post about this, and you want be the last. Just ignore people on here.

Out of eight iPhones (3's 4's and 4s's). I've only ever had one button go slightly bad. It was more of an intermittent annoyance rather than a showstopper. Apple swapped it out.

So five out of nine is excessive. I'd want an explanation too.

Are your defective 'phones jailbroken? Could it be a software issue? Is the defect intermittent or always present?

None of them are jailbroken. All up to date. At first it becomes less responsive, then in few weeks it barely works, in few months it stops working completely. Like mine right now, my power button does not work at all.

Edit: I lied, after 12 pushes, the power button worked! Whoooo! And then it stopped working again until another 12 pushes :)

Edit2: For the fun of it, I tried again. 39 pushes later, it worked :)

I read well, thanks. He can work with Apple to send the phone back. Or do you not understand that? You need to take your own advice and ignore people here.

Does FedEx not ship to the country that you're working in?

There are millions of people within the US that have no Apple Stores nearby to "go have it replaced". They call AppleCare, who ships them a replacement phone (and a pre-paid box to ship the broken one back in).

Regardless, you're a pretty rare use case, to which the only solution seems for the manufacturer have a 100% perfect yield rolling off the assembly line. Even with a 99.99% perfect yield, that's still 100 imperfect phones per every one million made.

Nope, Apple won't do s.it unless you go back to the States. Do you think I did not try that? Is that what you think?

Even Europe Apple won't do s.it. I tried that one too.

Sure he could be he would be without a phone for a while. If he is on business this is not an option. Just go get is replaced only really applies when you are in the Country.

Last time I checked this was a forum for people to voice their opinions on Apple products. Which is what he did. You whining about him whining is just stupid. He has a good reason to complain. Yes he could take the phone and get it replaced, but he thinks there is a real issues with quality. Like I said before he is not the only one complaining about this, so maybe people should start taking notice to the quality.

It really is crazy on blinded Apple fans are by Apple.

To some this is a place to rave about Apple products I guess. I LOVE Apple products and had one bad home button on my iPhone 4 after a while and it was fine. Other than that no problems with iPhones but the number of phones with a problem here is not normal.
