Happy launch day! The new iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max devices are in the hands of Apple customers as of today. We'll have a full unboxing coming later, but we thought we'd take a quick look at the star of today's launch, the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Of the four new iPhones that Apple made available today, the 15 Pro Max has the best feature set and it's the device to choose if you want top-of-the-line capabilities. Here's why it stands out:
  • USB-C Port - With USB-C, you can charge your iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the same USB-C to USB-C cable. The iPhone can also be used to charge devices like the AirPods and the Apple Watch, and on the Pro and Pro Max, you can transfer content at up to 10Gb/s with an appropriate cable.
  • Action Button - The Action Button replaces the mute switch on the Pro models. It can be set to do all kinds of things like activate a Focus mode, turn on the camera, turn on the Flashlight, activate a Shortcut, and more.
  • A17 Pro Chip - The A17 Pro chip enables console gaming on the iPhone for the first time with support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing. You'll be able to play games like Resident Evil 4 and Death Stranding, and it's going to be just blazing fast for checking email, sending text messages, and scrolling social networks.
  • Titanium - The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have a titanium chassis that's lighter than the stainless steel chassis, so even though these iPhones are the same size as last year's iPhones, they'll feel less weighty in the hand. As a bonus, Apple changed the design to make them more repairable so it's less expensive if you break the back glass. Other design changes include more contoured edges and slimmer display bezels.
  • 5x Telephoto Lens - The 5x telephoto lens is a Pro Max exclusive feature, with the standard 15 Pro limited to 3x optical zoom. 5x optical zoom was made possible with Apple's new tetraprism technology so you can zoom in further than ever before. You'll get 25x zoom in total, and Apple also made a bunch of other improvements to the camera that you can see detailed in our iPhone 15 Pro roundup.
With all of the features available in the iPhone 15 Pro plus a larger battery because of more physical space, a larger 6.7-inch display, and the 5x Telephoto lens, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is hard to beat. Did you get a Pro Max? Let us know in the comments below.

Honestly, the only ones that are selling points for me are the USB-C (just to reduce the # of cables when traveling) and 5x zoom. I never feel like my 14 Pro Max is ever slow and if I want to console game I'll get on my console. I'll continue to use the action button as mute (I'd prefer the switch to remain) and titanium is fluff IMO, the tiny weight savings is negligible and does not have any meaningful impact on use for me.

*EDIT* - all of that said, I did order a 15 Pro Max mainly for the camera. I feel less inclined to bring my DSLR around with more optical reach on the phone.

I don’t notice the weight of a couple Lightning cables in my backpack while traveling. I’m pretty impressed if you can.

I have 13PM. All of the improvements make for a "nice to have" over my 13 but are not life changing. Of all the features, 5X zoom with the bigger main sensor is the one I would notice the most, but at this point, might as well wait it out till next year.

I have so many Apple things that still use Lightning so USB-C isn't as impactful as it should have been

  1. Increase iPhone revenue, while we figure out the slow down in cell phone demand
  2. Keep Apples track record of (mostly) upside earnings surprises
  3. Eliminate stockpiled outdated parts inventory
  4. Save marketing team from Mother Nature and for almost making me LOL by having to say the Most Pro iPhone we've ever created
  5. Hit analysts upside target of $240 for AAPL
Ohhhh....you meant 5 reasons for consumers:

It's not the weight and not a big deal in general but...
  • Reduces the mass of wires for USB-C, Lightning, micro-USB (stupid Kindle), etc. - minor but just simplifies things.
  • At home, I have lightning cables along with USB-C for my iPad stashed around the house so I don't need those there either.
  • If I am out and need a charge, anyone's USB-C cables used for their Android phones can be used plus they are more prevalent for charging other things like iPads and other devices.
Anytime you go from a proprietary connection or part to a universal one, it's a good thing.

I totally agree here. But I still have a lot of other legacy lightning cables (both mine and my families), yet I am still happy to reduce the need to have them step by step.

I see, so now that the iPhone 15 is out, it's become a selling point that it has a USB-C.
Whereas before - and unless Apple had been forced to chance - it was no good and worthless.
I don't even use the 3x zoom more than once or twice a year.

I’ve got a 14 Pro Max specifically so I could avoid the move to USB C for another year or two with all the cords I have. And honestly the 15 Pro Max feels more like a 14S Pro Max. Not that much of an update.
I have so many other thing with USB C that my iPhone 11 is about the only thing left with lightning. That and the camera are the two major points for me. I have a pro max on preorder.

I had the same thought until I picked mine up a short while ago. Like several reviewers have said, the weight difference is definitely noticeable. That, combined with the smoother edges makes the Max feel less burdensome in the hand.
