Yes they are insane expensive, I get it , but as a max owner they are fantastic
ANC is better than XM4 (yes subjective but I believe it is)
dont sweat with these, XM4 and even the Bose NC 700 I would sweat in a short time
auto-switching is great on these units.....way better than the AirPods, or the AirPods Pro

yes they are heavy and they feel very tight the first time (but they do loosen up after break in, and as poster mentioned above you can stretch them out a little for better feeling)

right now I am happy with the purchase, would I love them for cheaper of course who doesnt....but they are fanastiest headsets for even the 550 retail.

So, to sum it up:

- comfort is subjective
- noise cancellation at a great but worse than Sony WH1000-XM4 level
- Sound quality is bad FOR THE PRICE RANGE, and still doesn't beat cheaper headphones
- Switching audio between Apple devices, all right
- Spatial audio that WH1000 and many other cheaper headphones have

Add to that:
- heavyweight
- a terrible case
- never being able to turn them off
- lighting charging in 2020
- replaceable parts for half a kidney price

And that's just for $549! Sold!
and to sum up your summary: noise cancellation performance is subjective, you are just guessing it is not as good as Sony, some have claimed it is at least equal if not better, sound quality is subjective, for those who want EQ curves, you don't get a vote, sound quality is based on accuracy. heavyweight is more like heavier than plastic headphones, but not cumbersome. So sure you can get by with cheaper headphones, you can purchase more expensive headphones, you can make any value judgement you want to justify your purchase

Nicely put! There’s a lot of pseudo “audio “engineers” here. These random claims of “inferior sound quality,” with zero substance behind that claim is hilarious. “I cranked up 20hz all the way, not enough bass, going back to Sony.”

These headphones 🎧 look pretty good but seem to be playing more to their affluent fan base right now. It’s not particularly a ground breaking product/idea but a good business move to easily pick up low hanging fruit 🍎 Apple is sort of following its version of the BSF tagline “At BASF(Apple), we don't make (invent) a lot of the products you buy. We make (re-invent) a lot of the (electronic) products you buy (to make them somewhat) better (& of course more expensive).” I just wish premium high tech electronics didn’t have to be so disposable but quality durable goods don’t generate nearly as much profit and everyone wants passive investment income.

Apple could put out low quantities of Doo Doo and it would sell out. Come on. I am an apple fanboy. I have most of their products but this thing is awful beside the SQ and build quality.
I mean, the Max headphones are 12-14 weeks out. Not every product Apple makes has seen that kind of market reaction....Maybe I am crazy, but when it comes to nice headphones, Sound Quality and Build Quality are pretty important..

Does the focus on spatial sound mean that latency isn’t an issue with the APM? Anyone tested for sound delay from various products?

If these can deliver acceptable low latency from both my AppleTV and Samsung TV that would be the dealbreaker for me.

The Sony XM4: 6 reasons to consider:

1. Build/ Comfort: nice and light, build seems fine for the weight savings
2.Audio Quality: Sound very good to my ears
3.Noise Cancellation: it works and is adjustable several ways
4.H1 Chip: Sony's chip does fine in Apple's Ecosystem, I can switch between two Apple devices quickly with no problems
5.Spatial Audio: Sony has this too, I think they invented it, works good too!

6. Savings of $275, very happy I did not dump another pile of cash into Apple for marginal gains in sound

Sorry Im just disgruntled because the Airpod max sound better but the Sonys work better. I don't care about the price difference.

Waiting to see if they release a cheaper Sport or SE model.
Also for those of you who have them. How easy is it to clean that head band?
Seems like if you put anything in your hair it would eventually start staining the mesh part. Also if it ever rips that whole will only get bigger. I kinda expect someone to release some type of padded wrap to go over the mesh portion

Cute that you show these cans resting on top of two books that talk about Apple, but I think they look pretty silly when they are resting on someone's head. Then there's better sound for less money elsewhere. The only reason to get them is if you are an admitted Apple Fan that has to have everything Apple, and maybe the H1 chip....maybe. Don't compare them to Sony, Bose or Sennheiser. That's kind of like doing a comparison test of an Alfa Romeo to a Chevy or Ford.
