iPad will never become a competent computer replacement, unless MacOS & iPadOS merge. which will probably happen with the ARM architecture, in 2-3 years.
I just want the text selection magnifying glass back. That’s all I want.
The weather app !
Same here. One screen with a two 2x2 stacked widgets. One for music and photos the other for calendar and reminders. A 2 x4 siri suggestion widget that feeds me my regularly used apps. That leaves 4 fixed apps and the dock for things I know I always want available. Everything else I access from apps library. For me it’s so much better than all these years of organising stuff into folders.I used to think that. But then I recnetly tried it out on the iPhone and was surprised at how many of my neatly organized apps never get used and actually do belong in a “junk bin”.
Now my phone is one home screen with 6 apps and 2 stacked widgets. I can access all my regularly used apps easily and the rest are all hidden away. I didnt think this was a good feature but now I look at my overly organized iPad and it looks like a mess.

How about when my iPad boots up I get a screen that lets me choose to run iPad OS or MacOS?
Boom! Now I only need ONE computer a iPad! Even better my iPad can switch between iPad OS or MacOS on the fly!
I know I'm dreaming.
For those people who have a family it is common.Do people really still share devices? Really?
There's also no option to shut off the iPad's display when using an attached monitor, which is distracting
On a recent episode of Accidental Tech Podcast John Siracusa and Marco Arment addressed the multi-user question for iOS/iPad OS and basically it boiled down to it would take a major rewrite of a significant amount of the OS to do this due to having incurred so much tech debt from its origins as a single user OS.
Is the only profession occupation a programmer? Can other professionals not use an iPad? What a daft comment.Give me Xcode and a way to build apps on the ipad. Then I will consider it a pro device. Until then its just an expensive toy (no matter the 'Pro' demonicer)
It is a fully fledged USB port, and you can access the file system. It’s not a Mac but neither is it a toy. It excels over a Mac in some situations, and a Mac is preferable in others. But it’s ok if you don’t understand that. Some people are frightened of change.Apple should release a Mac tablet. iOS is a limited jailed-sandboxed toy without an accesible file system and lacking a full-fledged USB port among other shocking limitations.
