I miss OS version-exclusive wallpapers that would come to all devices supported by a given OS iteration (and bring with them all past wallpapers). Too bad Apple isn’t that diplomatic anymore.
Agreed. It used to be an update for everyone then turned into only for those who got a new phone hell they literally have one dark mode wallpaper now.

Depth effect is completely useless because as soon as you add any widgets it removes the option.

Anyone know where to get the lorikeet wallpaper in the screenshot without downloading a 1000 apps?

I haven't played with this much but why when I add widgets I can no longer use the "Depth Effect"? Anyone else experience this?
I am guessing that iOS makes a mask of the lock screen wallpaper and allows the wallpaper to be split into 2 parts one to be behind the clock, the other above. Widgets are below the clock and though they could easily sit above the top-layer mask that adds in another layer to the lockscreen.

This might be an ios17 or 18 feature as the phones can handle more information on the lock screen without any loss to battery life. For now it could be that or it could be the idea it is TOO MUCH to have both right now. Let people get hooked on widgets OR depth, not having both.

I miss the device exclusive wallpapers…

Genuinely curious: why?

And I ask one simple question: why do I want something covering up the clock? Half the time the only reason I personally check my phone is to see what time it is.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Like... depth effect is a cool gimmick and proof of concept, but it's totally not practical. It's probably one of those things people will play around with because it's new and shiny, only to eventually simply turn it off and forget it even exists.

When something is completely free, YOU are the product. YOUR data, location, browsing history, etc.
No company exists giving out free product with no strings attached.

I'm happy and willing to pay for apps. I'm not happy and not willing to have subscriptions for literally EVERYTHING shoved down my throat. I have apps I BOUGHT years ago that have become more ore less useless because now my officially bought former "premium" version has ads popping up all the time and even large sections in the interface blacked out in an effort to get me to subscribe to their "now premium" service. That's simply not cool. Period.

That's not only an app store problem, it's a general problem, currently. I don't want to be forced to have subscriptions for as I said literally any and all software out there, including professional. I totally understand and appreciate how subscriptions make total sense for some users. But there's also a demographic that doesn't require nor is interested in always at any given point having the latest version. I want to be able to choose. I want to be able to pay once and than it's *mine*. Not merely leasing usage rights for some time.

Can cat lovers leave other non cat lovers alone? Please?
As many times as I’ve reread “Even the ones with cats? 🥺”, I don’t see where the poster says, “non cat lovers have to apply the cat wallpapers”.

👊😉👍

iOS 16 new hype thing is a walpaper?? Hahahaha, it may sound great for my grandpa but just that....I'm not feel identified with Apple products anymore...They are oriented to elder people YAY, it's a Baby boomer Persona Corporation... Those 49mm Watches are sooo Chinese style smart watches, they are really ugly. If Steve wake-up again he would fire everyone in the company. Sorry guys I'll let the ship go. Good luck

Pretty sure you’ve never identified with Apple Products, considering you made an account a year ago just to bash them a couple times a year.

The article is about wallpaper apps, not that iOS 16 was built just for the wallpaper depth effect. Nowhere does it mention the AWU and we love our Apple Ship, it sails strong.

BTW, the plank is on the starboard side, feel free to walk it. 👊😎👍

These type of apps I avoid like the plague. Call me crazy.
Tried all. The Lockd one has a wild scheme, it shows you no ads on first app open and second one it unloads on you. iPhone 11 different price iPhone 14 Pro Max higher price.

Best one was Wallpapers Now, zero ads, and zero personal data collected. One time purchase available.

Fact: These type of apps are filled with trashy content.
Fact: 95% of the wallpapers in this app are junk.
