being a wearable, i figured the chances of the watch being damaged is much higher than the phone. the $49 for apple care cost seemed like a no brainer to me so i just bought it this morning.

Why do you think the risk is higher?
I never bump/scratch/drop my watches and when it's on my wrist it's totally safe. I cannot see why it's more likely to damage then my phone.

(I live in Europe, so don't buy apple care. Extra warranty is total ******** with our laws anyways and damage is covered on my MasterCard for 400 days)

Edit: never mind, i see you guys bump against walls (I don't :D )

if i were you, i would call apple and admit whats going on and see if the rep is nice enough to let you get it and still submit a claim.

I agree with this. Apple is quite forgiving. Explain the situation and it's possible (not likely, but possible) that they fix it for free. I know half a dozen people who have had broken iPhone screens fixed for free.

But do as dictoresno suggests, explain what happened and ask to buy AC+ and make an immediate claim, and you may be in luck. Apple also appreciate people being straight-up with them. And if you don't have any luck the first time, book into another store and try again.

Fixing it yourself (difficult with a water resistant device) will also mean that you have no warranty for the remaining warranty period should something else go wrong.

To clarify: Do this in-store face-to-face, if you live close to one. Over the phone isn't nearly as likely.

I've seen many people get their damaged devices replaced for free because they were honest vs trying to trick an apple rep. They aren't stupid and get these false claims enough to know when someone is trying to BS them. Just saying. Honesty well get you farther.

I always buy AppleCare. Even if you think you'll never use it, you'll never know. But be honest when you talk to them, I'm sure people have tried all sorts of things and being honest goes a long way with people.

Because I'm not talking about a regular purchase of AC+, I'm talking about buying AC+ for a device which will be shown as broken, and asking nicely if they will let you do so then make a claim even though that's against their policy.

I didn't ask a question. I said go to Apple and nicely ask for a replacement.

Same here being a wearable AC+ is a good idea even though I do not generally purchase these plans but the watch has a great chance of being harmed in my opinion
Absolutely. Even a relatively sedentary person has certain tasks that could result in harm to their watch. Most of the hits to my watch actually occur when I'm bustling about in the kitchen, reaching into the pantry for canned goods, for example. Whenever you have to maneuver your arm around in tight spaces there's a chance you will whack it against something. I originally thought it was going to be my work in gardening and landscaping that would do the watch in, but all that's done is get my watch dirty. It's common household tasks we all engage in at some point that result in the scratches and dings.

Apple Care Plus is well priced and offers you generous service for the cost. That's not to say some people won't have problems or complaints about it. But I really do recommend it to Apple Watch purchasers lest you find yourself in the same bind as the OP in this thread.

Reactions: Newtons Apple
I just called apple care and tell them i wanted to add the insurance the just asked me if the device had any damage then the she said she needed to ask or Check out something and she said yes we can add apple care because you called before the two months and yeah i just gonna wait some days and take it to them to fix it anyways i payed like 50 for apple care and I will have to pay like 69 plus taxes to them to fix it. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who do that... And not my fault the watch is that expensive and that easy to scratch or crack. So yes i will have my lovely watch soon.

This is why you buy Apple care. It would of cost you a lot less and a lot less hassles.

Agreed, also if you sell the watch when gen 2 comes out having apple care ups your asking price. You can make 50% of what you paid.

A watch on your arm is a high risk of bumping into things, rubbing against things and the such. If anyone reading this doesn't have apple care I suggest you consider it.

you do know you practically paid for the cost of the originally screen replacement if done by Apple from the start. Just because you have AC+ doesn't mean you'll get a free replacement you still have to pay a damage fee, at that point of what you should have paid at the start.
