A FIX is new 17.4.1 build 237 see below iOS 17.4 OTA update bricks iPhone a 12 mini, a 12. Apple Store Genius DFU Restores fail. Apple Configurator 2 fail.

17.4.1 Restore fail too.

Help? Suggestions?

The update worked fine with 4 other iPhone 12 in the family group.

Error Code (-1).06A6.FFFF during restore of iPhone from Mac
Apple Store genius:
- Tried DFU multiple times
- inspected Lightening port, cleaned it
- Confirmed no liquid
- Tried multiple cables
- Tried different Macs
- Tried Apple Configurator 2.
Recommendation: Customer buy replacement.

Now seeing other reports, buying a new iPhone because of a failed update doesn't feel right.

Multiple reports. See: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255469818?sortBy=best&answerId=260294403022 (and reportedly iPad OS 17.4 bricks an iPad similarly)

Is the phone completely unusable at this point? iOS 17.3.1 is still being signed, so you may try a DFU restore using it and then try upgrading to 17.4.1 again.

Thank you pkO. I'll try to find a still signed IPSW of 17.3.1. I tried one that I downloaded (that indicated it was not signed) and it failed. IPSW.me I think. Any suggestions on where to find? Thx, it looks like a signed one is available there. I've downloaded. 🤞 I'll try shortly.

To clarify one point: the IPSW file itself is the same whether or not it's signed. Apple can stop signing at any point without modifying the IPSW- the signing happens online when verifying the installation.

Thanks, chrfr. Paddle1, pkO, others, the 17.3.1 IPSW failed in same manner. It may no longer being signed. The 17.4.1 IPSW failed as well. (Mac M2 started in Safe Mode to isolate. No VPN, etc.) I still believe it is a software update casualty. The Apple Store Genius inferred agreement. The friend with the same issue, but with a resolution by an Apple Genius (in another state) had seen a few of these instances. I'll make another appointment for next week.

I'll keep trying suggestions as I see them here.

Apple released a new build of iOS 17.4.1. Could try that to see if it works. Perhaps it's intended to fix this issue that some people have been experiencing.

Confirmed!
iPhone13,1_17.4.1_21E237_Restore.

Worked! Search IPSW (dot me worked) download.

macOS
Plug your iPhone 12 mini in to your Mac.
Navigate to your iPhone 12 mini in Finder.
Hold the Option or Alt key on your keyboard, and press "Restore".
Select the iPhone13,1_17.4.1_21E237_Restore.ipsw file that you downloaded.
Wait for the restore to complete, and the iPhone 12 mini to reboot.

Thanks, iStorm. Everyone. Apparently, not hardware after all!
