Flash on the iPhone, Adobe responds.

Yes, well show me flash video on the Hero(or similar device) running flawlessly, and your reasoning will hold water. Until then, my reasoning is still valid...
Inter-company politics aside, Apple won't even give Flash video the time of day, until it runs perfectly. Just having it running, won't suffice.

It's official... Flash is the new MMS. 😛

I for one... Don't care. Most pages have flash free versions of their sites as well or Mobile versions. I like what iMobileCinema is trying to do. Make a Flash Video player. So you see the window for the video and you can touch it and it starts playing. Avoids the nasty flash banner ads and such. 😀

The only reason I want Flash is for Netflix and Hulu.

It kind of annoys me on how apple is greedy. There really isn't any reason to keep flash out of the web browser. Sure, they throw the "battery life" excuse but, that is a bit played out. AFAIK, the safari runs just like every other application on the phone. So why does apple disallow it? Probably because they want every application to go through the APP store. Apple worked with adobe to get Adobe's new "MX" (or whatever you call it) software that now compiles Flash applications into the native iphone format to be submitted to the app store. That way apple still gets to have your 30%.

Genius, but annoying.
 
When flash does eventually (yes, eventually) arrive for Safari, I hope that iPhoneOS has support for ad blocking. I do not want my already precious screen space taken up by annoying little ads on the side.

Flash Sucks in general
Flash ESPECIALLY sucks on Macs
Putting flash on the iPhone so I can...watch ads? Play games? view porn? doesn't nearly make it worth it.

Do you honestly think that Flash will be on the App store? It would be installed in a system update; Adobe would be crazy to try and charge people for what they call the "real" internet.

I'm pretty sure you didn't read the post correctly...

Adobe can compile flash videos as native iPhone apps. These can be submitted to the app store by their developers.

They did this to bring flash, in some form, to the iPhone.

This may be OK with Apple because it still conforms to the "All apps must be approved by Apple" routine by forcing each app to go through the App store process.

This is now what Adobe "wants" but rather what they can do right now with the restrictions that Apple has.
 
Implementing Flash on the Iphone will take money out of Apple's pocket. therefore, it won't be allowed until Apple comes up with a way to make some cash out of the deal.


You guys need to know who you're working with here. As much as I love Apple and their products, they have never (and will never) allow any 3rd party software to run on their platforms without making revenue off them.. that's just the Apple way.:apple:

I suppose you're a Silverlight fan 😉 Haha. It won't. I mean I'm sure many of us would love to see a big move to new HTML standards but I doubt it'll happen any time soon. We'll probably see IPv6 catch on before that! 😀
 
Flash is Life. Like it, love it or hate it, without it the "Internet" isn't complete on the iPhone. I, for one, welcome our Flash overlords, when it eventually arrives.

Wow... I've never seen such a Flash devote! 😛 It's nice to have but I haven't missed it on my phone...

Not a chance. I'm a web designer meaning I like HTML and CSS. I don't believe in any of these proprietary systems getting mixed into what should be a free and open internet.

I totally agree. I only feel that it's not likely. I'd also like to see OGG and OpenDocument Formats prevail. The general public isn't ready.

Not so much a devote, but after using the 3GS as my primary internet connection, you come to the realization how much IS Flash. I'd be happy to switch to a more widespread standard, but, one doesn't really exist, IMHO. The devil you know, if you get my drift?

I want my ESPN, in realtime.

play games, watch porn, lots of news web sites, sports web sites, pretty much all the video sites (college humor, break, etc.) yeah, I think it's worth it.

They do. After waiting to see what are the biggest hits, they write their own spin on the winners, and sell it (Numbers, Aperture), or bundle it (Dashboard) to boost sales.

3rd party Mac apps are free market research for Apple.

3rd party iPhones apps just gets them into the revenue more directly.

I've viewed live ESPN Flash content on my iPhone.

That's what all those VNC and RDP apps are good for... if you have a high enough bandwidth connection. Spin the fans on whatever hot heavy hardware is running your RDP/VNC/Citrix/VMWare/LogMeIn session, and stream the remote view to your iPhone.
