I don't really see the point in not having Flash on the iPhone. The new iPhone 3Gs has a compass, how many people would actually use it? Flash on the other hand, is used daily by thousands, maybe even millions, there is a lot of sites that are streaming different films, clips and such. How hard could it be for someone or Apple, to make a small patch for the iPhone that installs the requirements for Flash use? Maybe even an app could do it, so people don't need to jailbreak/hack it.

Like others have said, Flash would kill your battery. Imagine going to a site, and there are tons of Flash ads on the page. Sure, you could put in an option to turn it off, but every time you actually want to use Flash, you would have to exit Safari, turn it on, use it, exit Safari again, turn it off. And using Flash with Hulu? Ha! Hulu already lags on some current desktop PCs, what makes you think it'll run better on an iPhone? Sure, they might make mobile versions, but if you're going to make a mobile version of the site, you could easily go through Quicktime instead of Flash, thereby defeating the purpose of having Flash in the first place! Sure, you could play Flash games, but that would draw people away from the App Store, and Apple doesn't want that.

Side note, what is it with people and bumping 2 year old threads around here?

Some sites, like hulu and CBS, use Flash to offer you shows for free, the same shows that Apple sells via iTunes. For this very reason, we will never see Flash on the iPhone. Heck, I'm surprised they don't try to block Flash on their own Macs.

I agree with you about flash ads, but sometimes flash is absolutely necessary (especially on my fantasy football website). :)

exactly..

and it would be nice to play games from websites without having to download the app..

it would kill app store revenue..thats why they haven't allowed it..

but if its true..I'm willing to jailbreak..

I dislike flash too, My CSS Site is something I'm putting up using new standards w/ HTML5 to get myself away from flash forever.

Would not be a problem. Most people don't sit on a web page for hours, and their phone turns off after a few minutes of non-use.

Yes, the separate settings page for apps was one of the dumber Apple UI ideas.

However, it's more probable that each Flash section would show up with a little symbol that you could tap to activate.
