That's what I thought too.

But what it says makes sense, and it would also explain the newly evidenced graphical damage that supposedly wasn't there before.

Again, providing that is what happened in this particular instance. That said, I cannot presently confirm if that was the case or not.

I hear you mate, but i doubt it. lol.. I could send you my card to see if it artifacts on your computer if you wish? :) (id have to dig it up first though) :/
or grab one from those on ebay., flash it and check it out. i really doubt its the GPU power cable...

Id grab this one, its in the US.

I got one in the mail this week. The seller on ebay have a ton of these to sell. I’m flashing it tonight. Hope it goes well.

@z970mp I refurbished mine today and the thermal paste was dryed up. The gpu die was blueish (too much heat imo). I had a couple failing gpu in the past and they usualy get artifac before giving up and just showing a black screen.

Heres mine:

I've discovered recently that the X1900 GT is not compatible with any Linux on PowerPC due to the OS being required to fill in half of the card's BIOS, which apparently no distribution available to the platform could ever figure out how to do. Not sure about OpenBSD; probably same case there too.

It seems these cards are only useful on PPC for Tiger and Leopard, unfortunately.

As of now, I’m not interested in linux. Will see in the future. I’v re-read the entire thread and I’l let you know if my card is getting artifac after being flashed. I’v tested it on a pc with half-life 2 and all was good.

Intriguing thread and great to see that these things are like $25 on the ol' auction site. From what I can tell about the benchmarks out there, these are a decent option to upgrade but aren't necessarily better than a 7800 GT. Is that right?

I've been on the lookout for a FX4500 with the "L" bracket for a long time, but I don't want to spend more than $20-30.

@NathanJHill Something like that. From what I remember, I believe they were better than even the FX 4500 in some areas, especially those relevant to gaming / 3D rendering.

For solely OS X, the X1900 v2 is a great card. It's much, much faster than the stock 6600, and this even reflects in desktop usage.

@z970mp I’m glad your card work... I dont want to be the guy whining around but man. I used atiflash 3.10 ( period correct) with the rom found on the mac elite ( renamed to radeon.rom). The flashing process went well afaik (1000h programmed/1000h verified). The card still dont work on my G5 and now it is unusable on pc. I got my eeprom programmer, so I’m not sol (I have to learn how to use it tho). What atiflash message you got after a sucessfull flash? I’m sure you saw my failed 7800gtx atempt and the wrongly purchased x1900xt macpro card. Lol. Maybe in the future I’l get a working card or a card working, frak! :p

@MrVitalic From what I remember, ATIFlash didn't give any message after flashing. I believe it just spat out a couple of statistics and technicalities before presenting the prompt again.

However, I used ATIFlash 4.07. That may or may not make all the difference for a successful flash.

What OS is your G5 on? And you did plug in the GPU cable, right?

My G5 is on leopard and panther. I made it working. I ended desoldering the eeprom and soldering it to a board to be able to program it without error. So far I dont have any graphical artifac. My card is warped ( dont know of its shipping damage or plain old gpu sagging). Temperature monitor doesnt register the gpu temp. My card fan is running full speed all the time, is yours doing the same? If not I’l order another card and swap eeprom, mine may be defective. I hope you enjoy these couple picture. Oh quake 4 run very fine in 1080p maxed (45-60fps). Have a nice day!

Yep, fan is full blast all the time. I've seen several cards that work this way by default, including the Radeon 9800.

I actually prefer cards with full speed fans because they tend to have less thermal issues, which can mean the difference between a working card and an eventually cooked one. Case in point, the 9700. Its fan is terrible, and they're more likely to die as a result.

Interesting, on pc the same card have a fan profile (if I remember well when I tested it). I did also installed the ati driver on leo and panther. The 6800 ultra fan in my agp G5 doesnt run at full speed all the time. I’l try again editing the rom if theres any possibility to adjust the fan speed/temp. Its a annoyance when doing music. At least my card is not broken. Btw I read that the shim present on a 9700pro warp when the card get hot resulting in the heatsink not making contact with the gpu. People usualy remove that shim. Not the case on a 9800. I had a 9800 younger and yes I forgot gpu used to run at full speed all the time :p Back then we didnt have gpu boost and silent idle :)

How can you remove the shim without damaging the die underneath?

@z970mp Jump at 6min30. On another site, someone said to use a razor blade to cut the glue ( same process as removing the ihs on the ps3 cell processor). Hope that help.

I have a FireGL X3 here but i dont get the ATI Multi Dumper to work to make a Bacup of the original PC ROM.

Run Me First is started before

System is Leopard. Any ideas?

Just use ATIFlash 4.07 on DOS, making sure to follow the instructions on The Mac Elite. Graphiccelerator is very unreliable for multiple cards.

No option at the moment, no AGP PC availible at home.

I have read flashing the FireGL V3 with Graphiccelerator is working, but i want a ROM Backup first. Now i test it on 10.3. perhaps it is a 10.5 problem.

What is the Multi Dumper doing when you run it? Is there any outcome?

Perhaps you can check out the system log for potential issues.

I have the exact same card, fans don't run full tilt (or didn't from memory) I def would have remembered that as I used it in a silent quad.
