One element of that is used to make elements of flatomorphic design is the grid system.

I'm not positive using this system makes for consistent iconography.

Also flatomirphism goes beyond the icons of IOS 7. The newly revised Apple apps will be flatomorphic as well.

While this grid system looks like something, it's really not. Plenty of the icons don't even follow it. It's also been debunked by some big devs and professional icon designers and being just plain "wrong". Jony is a great hardware designer but its clear this grid is just his attempt at trying to be a good software designer. But who knows. Maybe this grid came from the same team that brought us those new indiglow icons and not Jony at all.

This is the dumbest (yes I'm making up a word) thread I've ever seen.

Sweet.

Almost as sweet as the flatomorphic designs we will enjoy in IOS 7.

Seriously though, just curious what you think of the new look regardless of this inane thread?

If you keep telling yourself that you may start to believe it.

Is it a carbon copy? Of course not. Did they take some design elements and run with them? Absolutely.
Ill accept your apology for calling me a troll any time you like.

The problem with your image is that the multitasking cards is similar in style to Safari's tabs, which has been around for a long time.

I guess if you want me to give you a moniker from my own I would call it 'selective deconstructionism' since all they are doing is breaking down things into parts and removing what they think is unnecessary for recognition of vital parts.

I second 'selective deconstructionism'; Apple broke the buttons down and kept the text, they broke the icons down and kept the basic shapes, they broke the OS down into layers separated by translucent blurs. Speaking of blurred layers:

I still like flatomorphic better.

Looking up deconstructionism this is what I found:

Seems to fit.

Good deal. I still like flatomorphic for simplicity but respect where you're coming from although most images from deconstructionism, in my opinion, look fairly apocalyptic or a tad disturbing. The Apple icons seem a tad more pedestrian to me.

Although there are some fallacies over there. How did apple copy android in control centre, when android aren't even the ones who invented quick settings? They first appeared as a jailbreak tweak years ago.

Multitasking, again, not invented by HTC. In fact, if you look, the iOS 7 system seems to be a version of mission control, but worked for the phone. Are apple copying themselves? Certainly not.

The lockscreen comparison is just plain silly. The iOS 7 one is the iOS 6 lockscreen but without the glass and the sliders. If you don't believe me, try see for yourself.

Why is no one hating on the Reminders icon? It's the absolute worst. It blows my mind how bad it is. The multi-colored dots look fuzzy and out of focus and the lines are so mis-aligned, I can't even look at it.

AGH!

LOL after the skeuomorph moaning here comes flatomorph moaning. People are so stupid.

Yes, people are so stupid because not everyone agrees. v__v

It's hideous just like the rest of them.

If it makes you feel any better, I hate the Reminders icon. I've put it in a "timeout" folder with some other stock apps where it can think about what it's done to aesthetics.

How can you not like it, it perfectly aligns with the grid? :D

So bad it's good?

Often when I hear a song, that later turns into a favorite, I hate it.

Perhaps that will happen with the flatomorphic elements of IOS 7.

In my gut I feel like some we are losing a bit of Job's spirit with this flat new operating system. Perhaps there could have been a new look that didn't entirely throw out the good with the bad?

I kind of liked having the notepad looking like notepad and the buttons like dimensional glassy objects.

I am a fan of change when it makes sense.

I'm not sure I'm buying the story that's been spun to sell the look. It just doesn't seem consistent and in my opinion up to Apple's high standards. For those of you who do not care how elements of IOS 7 look - you know we are talking about Apple don't you? Their products have a rich history of beautiful design and superior function.

I hope when the dust clears and IOS 7 launches, flatomorphic will be a positive descriptor instead of a satirical one.

I hope I grow to love it.

I'm going to contradict myself on previous posts but my 72 year old mum, who saw the ios 7 vids and wasn't too fazed by the redesign, spent some time with a similar aged friend of hers and my mini running ios 7 over the weekend.. They're pissed. It ended with 'do I have to upgrade?' 'I have just gotten used to the iPad, I don't want this'.

It seems the sku designs of calendar, reminders, especially notes may strike a chord with the elderly, familiar themes melded into new technologies made it easier for them to adapt and use these apps. I know the functionality is mostly still the same but they really struggled with lack of buttons, new symbols, they strongly disliked notes and couldn't find their way around the calendar (in comparison to ios 6).

The 'elderly' are a big demographic when it comes to the iPad, fingers crossed for Apple, IMO there's going to be some major negative backlash when ios 7 hits prime time. This could be the first big fragmentation we see on ios (unless it's a forced upgrade?).

I hope you're wrong but I believe many will be put off by this new interface.

I'm borrowing a computer that uses Windows 8 on it right now. It's ridiculous to try to move around on. I'm a mac user these days but I used to use windows. They changed too much too soon. Hopefully this won't be true for 7.

The term Flatomorphic is not for everyone . This term was first used on Twitter and I liked it and brought it here. I am not forcing anyone to use the term - nor do I think I have the power to.

I believe Flatomorphic aptly describes what Apple has created. Judge for yourself.

(unless it's a forced upgrade?).

It won't be a forced upgrade, however at some point a new phone will be released with iOS 7 and since you won't be able to go backwards, unless you want to stay behind hardware AND software wise you will be forced to move to iOS 7.

You can delay the change but you can't avoid it.

I'm probably going to plunge right into it, because even though I don't care much for iOS 7's new look, I'd rather just get the pain over with and move on.

Hey Cool-Aid!

I'll definitely drink the IOS 7 Cool-Aid when it is served in the Fall.

I hope it's sweet.

This image isn't showing up in everyone's browser... one more try:

I think the marketing team that came up with these icons had to be playing with this old Apple logo to get their color palette.

Flatomorphic Theory

Playing with some test flatomorphs today and realized you can't just have a bunch of white icons and circles. It quickly becomes monotonous. Maybe those Apple guys DO know what they are doing...
