I wasn't showing the Art Deco theme off as something I liked. Just showing that the "flatomorphic" design isn't Art Deco.

Is this a better example:

Is that metromorphic?

This is by far one of the best threads I've seen lately...:D

This guy actually created a word out of nowhere and has made a 5 pages long thread about it!

What's even better is that OP made up a word out of nowhere...and WE made a 5 page thread out of it!

It says more about US than OP, don't you think?:p

Haha, it's just that he is so enthusiast about his new word that we just can't help it.

In fairness to OP, remember that all words are made up out of nowhere. It's just that most of them were made up a long time ago. (Mostly within the past 500 years if you're an English speaker). :)

New words have to start somewhere. Now you'll be able to tell your grandchildren that you were there at the birth of "flatomorphic"!

Once there's a basis for language then majority of the words aren't just made up out of nowhere. Sure, there will be plenty that still are when it comes to new things, but the majority will still be based on existing linguistic principles to one degree or another.

True, and I'm not defending the word "flatomorphic." It just amuses me when someone objects to a word on the basis that someone "made it up."

Right. I guess perhaps the objection could (subjectively) be based more on that the word could be made up better. ;-)

This thread that wants to confuse MR members should really be closed by mods IMHO.

On my quest for IOS 7 nomenclature I think I have at least found a name for the new icons.

As the icons are flattened and simplified they are evolving into "logograms".

From Wikipedia:

A logogram, or logograph, is a grapheme which represents a word or a morpheme (the smallest meaningful unit of language). This stands in contrast to phonograms, which represent phonemes (speech sounds) or combinations of phonemes, and determinatives, which mark semantic categories.

Now when when people praise the new icons we can simply correct them and let them know the new proper term is logograms... or not.

Pictograms, hieroglyphs???

Regardless, I look forward to playing with the updated iPhone today in all of its flatomorphic glory (sorry, couldn't resist).

Ok. Here's my confession. Flatomorphic was my own private joke. I thought the term was ridiculous and had fun with all of you debating its worthiness as a descriptor for the new IOS.

Unfortunately, now it's time to get real. My first impressions of IOS 7 are terrible.

Right off I had to ditch my wallpaper in favor of a very dark photo from my camera roll. Because you couldn't read the text beneath the icons. Basic. Basic. Basic.

The color scheme and new look remind me of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. A movie that I sort of like (the original) and creeps me out at the same time.

THE IPHONE HAS LOST ITS SOUL.

This new design is flat. The concept is flat. The execution is flat.

Flatomorphic defines this phone perfectly. Goofy and ridiculous.

Sad.
