That’s definitely convenient but I usually will also specifically check the airline’s primary source for the most accurate gate number - NOT the app but rather the gate display board (FIDS) any time I walk past one (while on my way to my connecting flight) while flying thru a hub airport

Whenever there is a gate change, THOSE display boards are the fastest in reciprocating the updated gate (often by minutes) which can be the difference between going down the right concourse (or heading in the opposite direction) which, on a tight connection can mean the difference between making or NOT making your flight! I just always make it a habit to check that board when I past one. Some airports have them literally everywhere, which makes it really easy.

I'm sure, but we're not always in front of one of those boards. And as you mentioned sometimes the walk between the former and the current gate can take 20+ min. My wife didn't miss her flight because flighty alerted of her gate change, while the airline app (don't remember which airline it was that time) kept showing the outdated info.

It also makes it so much easier for me to go pick her up at the airport, as it keeps arrival time up to date. In the past I had to rush, as her flight would unexpectedly land 20 minutes earlier, while google and the airline app kept showing wrong time. Anyhoo, this app has been great. I got annual subscriptions for me & my wife during Black Friday.

Have a fun one coming up. Despite being booked as a single ticket, apparently I fly into one New York airport and have 2.5 hours to make it to the other in order to catch my flight to Europe. Delta doesn't provide transportation nor do they transfer my bag. Not at all happy about this on a first class flight.

I don't know how anyone can trust ANY 3rd party app.

ALWAYS ONLY use the actual flight app for the airline you are flying, to confirm timings.

For up to minute changes? Sure.

But for the general hour flight times, one would hope to rely on an app to get time changes that have been announced WEEKS ago.

They pay for the API access to flight data and thus it can't be 0 or money losing . That's the dilemma. I ended up buying the lifetime subscription and use it for all our travel along with Trip-It app.

Exactly. Anti subscription crowd is all or nothing. If the app is using some other subscription layer then the app has to be subscription based. If you finds value in the app then pay for a subscription. Ongoing cloud and api costs are not a one time payment

Even $8 CAD per trip would be too expensive IMHO. The free features are good enough, and the airlines provides some of the remaining options already.

If I took like 2-3 planes in a row and had connecting flights, it would definitely be worth it. It's rarely the case for me though.
