My wife will be up for a new iPhone in 2027, so a version 2.0 foldable may be on the radar. How much though? 256 GB for US$1999? I don't want to spend that much money, but I'd consider perhaps $1599.
I think it will cost more than $1999 USD.

A foldable iPhone is an instant buy for me. A foldable iPad, if running iPad OS is as worthless as a slab iPad in my life.
Thanks for letting us know. It would be the opposite for me, especially if it had a third screen so it doesn’t need to be opened.
What will be an instant turn off is if people start reporting visible crease.

I have a thinkpad pro with a non visible crease when turned on already. An iPad with all that would set you back probably close to 4 grand base model. That’s way too much coin to not be able to run any pro level apps.

Everyone has their own unique needs/wants so I'm sure a foldable will find a decent market. For me personally, I'm not looking for extra screen so a foldable phone would only make sense if and when the total volume is the same or smaller than current pro models without giving up features or battery.

Yes, but how many will buy Apple’s version it if it’s priced significantly higher than Samsung? That’s the question. Ready to pay $2.3K for a 512GB version or $2.6K for 1TB?

I aint; no.
But apple haven't been shy about pushing the envelope when it comes to pricing and there isn't a shortage of people out there that can afford it/want to look like they can afford it.

The samsung offerings are at a premium price compared to their standard range offerings; a fold is more expensive than any other samsung or apple phone. Yet they sell a couple million units of those a year. Apparently it's enough to keep those lines going for it's 6th generation.

Tim Cook’s next disaster, after every other trend Apple has chased also ended in failure.

Virtual reality? Failed
Smart cars? Failed
Artificial Intelligence? Failed

Now, with ideas as scarce as they ever were, they jump on the foldables bandwagon…

Not really worth responding to this, but three strikes and you're out? 😬

None of those were failures. VR is still happening. AI is still happening. The Smart Car project contributed a ton to CarPlay tech. it was foolish of Apple to consider building their own physical car, but if they can contribute a car platform to the industry, It's still a success.

What you don’t know is that “these are not 2 different devices”.. are you getting it?

Excited for the rumoured durability on this thing, but I am losing my faith in what Apple claims a device can do.

What comes first, improved Siri, a folding iPhone, or WW3?

The folding phone is what made me switched to android after 15 years with the iphone. I'm rocking the oppo find n5 which costs me $1350 for the 16/512gb model. It's almost the dimensions and weight of my old 13 pro max and I'm loving it so far. If apple can keep the price at a sane level I really think the folding iphone will be a hit.

And cue all the people moaning about foldable phones being duds and hating creases being first in the queue.....

I know a few people will be looking forward to this, but I think thus far foldable devices have been a dud.
I think if it could work perfectly and reliably, it could be very useful, but I'm quite concerned about that last part. Physics is not in their favor. At this point, I'd wait until Apple came out with one (because they usually play it safe and do lots of R&D first), and then I'd wait until Apple's 3rd gen or so, before I'd consider getting one.
