Foldable 'iPhone Ultra 3' Rumored to Feature Larger Displays

If the RAM / lSSD AI crisis doesn’t get solved there won’t even be an iPhone Fold 2 nor the 20th anniversary model next year 😬

The one to et will be th second generation. it will be the same price as the first but with features like FaceID and they will fix issues that appear in the first one. The second one will probably be the same size before the ruining it by making it too big to use again. If you want a small phone and you're holding onto the 13min like me, this fold 2027 might be the. one to jump to. ridiculous price but a small screen. who said you need to ever open it

I’m holding out for the iMac Ultra - folds from a 24” display to a 48” display 😜
MagSafe has to be in this first gen. If they can fit it in the iPhone Air there’s no reason they could not fit it in the first fold.
I honestly think it's pointless to post articles about a rumored iPhone Ultra 3 when we haven't even seen the first gen yet. 🙄
Well, the reason I'm considering it is because it appears to be the only way to get a small factor iPhone ...when folded it's roughly the size of the iPhone 13 Mini that I have. If Apple would just put one of those out, knowing it will always sell at the 3% level, and make it profitable to do so, they would probably pick up sales. Not nearly as many people will get an iPhold just to get the smaller form factor.
There is also definitely a market for people who want an even bigger screen than the biggest iPhone, but who either want to be able to interact with the screen using their smaller hands or also want a phone that actually fits in a pants pocket. I carry my Mini in my front pocket, it fits just fine, and I don't have to worry about getting jabbed or having to stick it in aback pocket or jacket, plus the iPhold is rumored to be lighter as well. Having a smaller phone to use for basic things or while walking around and then being able to sit down with an iPad Mini to watch or read something, and having all that in a single device, is a compelling use case for many people.
There's nothing wrong with not wanting it for yourself, maybe you don't use a phone in a way where this makes sense, and that's perfectly fine. It's also important to realize that other people use their devices in a way much different than you, even in ways you can't imagine. Apple does market research, there must be a market for these things that they think they can expand into...we'll have to wait and see how it does, because sometimes the market says "Ooooh, I want that!" followed but "eh, not really what I thought I wanted".

What feature are you wanting? Magnets or wireless charging? Magnets can be incorporated in the case
Probably not if they make the phone bigger since space appears to be part of the issue. I think the main issue is getting it to work for both screens

Go to a Best Buy or your cell provider and play with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and see what you think of it. Ignore the Android aspect but you can see what it is all about by using one for a while. I have some friends with various Z Fold devices and I like them. If I wasn't so tied to Apple devices, I might even have one. The front screen is large enough for replying to messages and the internal screen is nice and large.
They're not for everyone, but don't dismiss it without even having a look at it. I've been following cell phone developments since they were flip phones that did little more than make phone calls. Every time a new technology or new way of doing existing technology came along, there were so many people saying that they don't see a need for it. If it was really true, we wouldn't have what we have today. I still remember people saying that iPads were ridiculous when there are laptops with keyboards. I also remember all of those who said that we don't need phones with large screens and that they were five with 3.5" iPhone screens. 😂
There are a lot more people onboard with the idea of an iPhone foldable now but I can still recall of the threads on Macrumors when Samsung came out with the first Z Fold and how nobody saw the need for a foldable screen. Of course some of that was because people here hate Samsung for existing.
Not sure how thick the foldable iPhone will be, but the Fold7 and Fold8 Ultra are barely two-sheets-of-paper thicker than an iPhone 17 Pro. Even the Fold8 Wide is less than a millimeter thicker.
17 Pro/Pro Max = 8.75mm
Fold7 folded = 8.9mm
Fold8 folded = 9.7mm
Fold8 Ultra folded = 8.9mm

When unfolded yes, but when closed the passport sized foldables front screens are probably the best 1 handed use screens, unlike large slabs 🙂
If Apple does what I hope it does, you won’t need a third camera. Apple’s Center Stage camera that is used on all current iPhones and iPads IS an ultrawide camera, even on the iPhone Air. People who say the Air doesn’t have an ultrawide are forgetting that camera. Granted it’s tough to take a photo over your shoulder, but it’s there.
If Apple puts a telephoto on the back instead of a duplicate ultrawide and just uses the FaceTime Center Stage camera as its ultrawide, it would have all three cameras we’ve come to expect on the pro phones on the one due out in a few weeks. With a foldable, it’s easy to use either the front screen folded or unfolded as the viewfinder. Unfolded, just face the inside screen towards where you want your shot and use the front camera to see what you’re taking a photo of.
Hopefully Apple figured that out and put a telephoto on the back.

The rumors say 9.5 mm plus an Air-style camera plateau, which on the Air is an additional 5.7 mm. That would be around 15 mm in total. The 17 Pro is 13.2 mm. When I say "quite thick", I'm comparing to the total thicknesses that we had in the past, like 7.6 mm for the SE, 9 mm for the mini, 9.5 mm for the 17e. Without camera plateau, the Ultra will likely be the thickest iPhone since the iPhone 4s (9.3 mm) if not the original iPhone (11.6 mm), and with camera plateau the thickest ever. Just five years ago, even the 12 Pro was only 7.4 mm without and 9 mm with camera.
