I’m betting on MagSafe being incorporated into the phone itself since the iPhone is expected to be a tiny bit thicker than the Samsung Z Fold 8. The Z Folds have never come with MagSafe magnets, always requiring a case for that. That’s rather annoying since cases make the phone much thicker, unless you get one of those Aramid carbon fiber 1500U cases that only makes it about 0.4mm thicker (making it about as thick as the expected iPhone). If the iPhone comes with it, you wouldn’t need a case to fatten it up.

So basically V1 will be gimped as much as possible (like the iPhone 6 Plus was with 1GB RAM) since it’s a new design and they’ve got to string out the feature set for as many years as possible. Give us just enough to make it attractive- but not too much. Save that for the next version etc.

They really need to call it iPhone fold. They are going to confuse customers a lot if they call it ultra since its a downgrade
It’s cost and thickness that gimps the cameras. You’ve seen how thick the iPhone Pro Max models are and they still stick way out. Samsung charges $1900 to $2200 for their foldable base models and they gimp their cameras, too. Would you really want to carry a phone twice the thickness of a pro model and still have a huge camera plateau?
Thickness is also what prevents FaceID, just as it does on the MacBook lines, since the lids are too thin to hold FaceID cameras. It isn’t so much holding back as it is compromising in order to have a phone thin enough for people to actually want. Remember Apple held back 8 years to let others figure out how to make phones thin and sturdy enough. Again, I’ll use Samsung as an example. They have never had top-of-the-line cameras on their foldables despite having prices 80-90% higher than their Ultra models. Yes, they have facial recognition, but it sucks and isn’t nearly as secure as FaceID (I’ve owned the Z Fold 4, 6, 7, and now 8). That isn’t an area Apple has been willing to compromise on.

I agree 100%. A folding screen is cool, but Ultra implies it is the best in every way, granted calling a phone “Pro” is a tad hyperbolic in the first place.

I mean, of course they will. The primary thing Apple has been good at for the last 12 years is “Make iPhone bigger.” I bet it will also have a better camera and longer battery life, maybe come in a fun new color!

Too repetitive on the tongue. The ph of iPhone doesn’t work with the ph of fold. iPhone fold. iPhone fold. iPhone fold. iPhone fold. Say it quickly a few times and you see how it doesn’t sound quite right.
I think it’s a big upgrade and so will a lot of people because it is all subjective, a Porsche 911 is a downgrade from a 20 year old Skoda to someone that mostly cares about towing capacity. The Ultra will be the best phone in a lot of areas, not least for professionals outside those that take pictures for a living.

Only one I would like on your list is Magsafe its a must, not really bothered with regards to FaceID but I know a lot of people want it. If the device is as thin as the rumors suggest I wouldn't hold any hopes to have it that will most likely be a feature on the second generation Apple doing Apple things.

I think Apple may surprise us with a UK starting price of £1,899 but I guess we will have to wait see.

Apple is already making plans for its third-generation foldable iPhone, with launch expected as early as 2028, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Writing in his latest "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said the first foldable iPhone is about to get what he called the device's first "truly revolutionary design change" this year, and that Apple already has a roadmap extending two generations beyond it. A second-generation model is planned for 2027, Gurman says, with a third version following as early as 2028.
The third-generation foldable will apparently feature slightly larger displays on both the inside and the outside compared to its predecessors, though he did not provide specific screen sizes. The first foldable iPhone is expected to launch with a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, so any increase would build on those dimensions. This is the first report to lay out plans for a third-generation model, extending Apple's foldable roadmap a year beyond where it previously stood.
The first foldable iPhone is expected to arrive this year with an ultra-thin design, Touch ID instead of Face ID, the A20 chip, C2 modem, and the moniker "iPhone Ultra," at a price around or above $2,000. The second-generation foldable, meanwhile, is reported to have already received the go-ahead for development, according to the Weibo leaker known as "Digital Chat Station," who said the "iPhone Ultra 2" project has been formally approved and will likely reuse the first-generation model's display. That model is expected to launch in fall 2027 alongside the 20th-anniversary iPhone.

According to the image at the top of the article, the Ultra will sport an under-display front camera, but it will also have the thickest black bezel around the display that we've seen since the first iPhone. Odd combination.

It may not sell as well as the Pro iPhones however it will most defiantly sell better than the Vision Pro its a Phone which carries provide with deals, Vision Pro is in its own category.
Seems insane if they do and would be a dealbreaker for me too.
