The lack of an action button is a dealbreaker by itself for me. I don't see why the "best" iPhone that costs $2k+ can't have it.
Serious question. Do you "use" it? (Quotes meaning serious use, as compared to casual.)
I like new innovative functions, but this one... just falls flat for me.

I always hit it by accident, I never have used it, I can easily use whatever I can program it to do without much effort. What am I missing?

I want to know as maybe I am missing something.

It’s very useful to me as a shortcut for play/pause. I use it every day for videos and music. It makes it just like the play/pause button on the iPod nano 7. I can press it in my pocket without looking. When I use my Meta glasses I don’t have to use the fiddly touchpad to play and pause.

So it’s missing half the advancements of the last decade. Got it😂
And they know it. That's why iOS 27 has that iPhone handoff feature. They know some people will actually be crazy enough to buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max as well as this device and either carry both or switch from one day to the next.

I have no interest in a foldable. I've used two foldables, most recently the Fold 8, and after the initial hype wears off, I find myself never using the inner screen. The Fold 8 was a double whammy in that regard because the front screen was too short to use properly. If this iPhone fold is more or less the same - and it does seem like that's the case - I won't like this one either. This thing to me is DOA.

The 18 Pro Max with its upgraded cameras, on the other hand, I'm waiting for eagerly.

Don't care about faceid, telephoto, sim and action button either, but would have liked the omission of magsafe. It's stupid to take up space in a foldable so it could have an inefficient charging method...

This is the bizarrest complaint to me, I don’t use my action button at all, it’s a redundant feature so wouldn’t miss it.

Obviously you’ve maybe discovered some unique use case for it that benefits you so fair enough, but feels alien to me that someone would miss it so much.

I just realized that my quick-action Flashlight is gonna be gone. I use it frequently.

... I'm probably still going for the Ultra, regardless.
