Yep, not spending over $1000 for a new iPhone, I don’t care what it does. At the end of the day, I’ll be using it the exact same way as I use my current iPhone.
It’ll go in my pocket, it’ll turn horizontal, it’ll play music, it’ll load websites, and it’ll take photos.
I can’t justify the price/benefit.

I've not seen anyone else mention this, but I think FaceID would actually require 2 FaceID systems. One on the inside, one on the outside, otherwise the UX would be very awkward depending on where you're working.

How about a phone that can be easily used with one hand, and isnt so big that it causes pain simply to hold. Like we had 15 years ago.

The iPhone is a great smartphone, and the iPad mini is a great tablet.
The iPhone Fold will probably be bad at both because it’s one big compromise.
That's actually a pretty good point; unless they compromise and go for a camera based faceid.
Logically, they'd just copy the samsungs and have a fingerprint scanner on the side.

It's not pathetic, it's what it costs to produce such device. Do you think Apple - after years and years if research and development - takes pleasure into failing to sell a device like Vision Pro?

You know what would be stupid? To release a device which unfolded screen is square, cuz then when watching videos more than half of the estate would go unused!

I think I have read somewhere that its reliability is contingent upon the fingerprint. I do remember reading that older people (I don’t know how old) may have more trouble as their skin thins out.
But I also think that problems can arise from the setup scan if you don’t move your finger around enough. I moved mine quite a bit, and I am often surprised by how little clean coverage is required for a successful unlock. 🤷♂️

I made a poll awhile back asking this question:
Why would it be a big compromise? How many foldables have you used to base that opinion on?
The only compromise I see it as is that the previous folds I’ve used had the wrong aspect ratio of the inside screen for a small tablet. Which is all fixed with the Fold 8 or iPhone Ultra.
I think it’s really important to try the tech to actually understand how they are to use day to day.
I think it’s obvious when something is a gimmick, a solution in search of a problem. Nokia also started trying gimmicky solutions before it’s downfall.
Well I think you are plain wrong and I have actually tried it out to actually see how it is to use. I will say that the first 2 Samsung Folds really weren’t that great, they were cool but they were too compromised in my opinion.
You honestly come off as quite close minded when you won’t even try something and at the same time trying to write off other peoples experiences like you do.
