I remember when the first iPhone came out and $499 for a phone seemed like a stupid amount to pay when you could get a free phone on contract. Heck, even the RAZR at $100 seemed like a lot. Oh how young we were...
That first iPhone price was subsidized by the required, expensive AT&T cellular contract.

In all honesty, given the amount of things I use my phone for, that’s not a bad price. I’m actually looking forward to this. Apple has flubbed a number of software issues over the last few years, but their hardware is ace and all things considered, I still prefer iOS over the competition. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

The outer screen will be a little wider than a Pro Max, but also a good bit shorter:

The form factor that has been mentioned in the rumors regarding the Apple foldable should be very similar to the original Pixel Fold (outside of weight and thinness). I didn't mind the dimensions of my original Pixel Fold at all, minus the weight of it.

For those whose phone is their live-on-it primary device, I can see the appeal, for sure. For those of us like me who are light phone users, it would be harder to justify. Even though I won't buy one I'm still interested in following its development to see what Apple comes up with in the foldable space.
If I have to open my laptop I feel I’ve failed, I try and do the majority of my work on my phone. This would def. appeal to me

That's because Apple want to sell you both of them and therefore delaying the release of a foldable as long as possible - because - reasons - you know... The same why you never will be able to use the power of the iPad as a replacement for a Mac or you can't have the telephone app on an iPad. Apple simply wants to sell you both or triple - simple math! ;)

then why release one at all?

Put foldable iPhone aside,
I will be very happy to buy if we can have normal iPhone with thickness of 4.5m or less...

I'm sure it will be great and interesting for some people... But that's something I don't need or want. An iPhone 17 Air will put a smile on my face and meet my needs. I already have an M4 iPad Mini that I like a lot.

I want one - I carry my iPad mini around with me for books, photos, videos, etc but of course also need an iPhone for calls and CarPlay. Having one dual-purpose device only makes sense to me.
A foldable iPhone would very likely cannibalize a big chunk of the iPad market. I guess apple will price the new foldable iPhone based on this. A pro iphone + an iPad (+ maybe q little extra for the R&d/complexity) = $?

Can we get magsafe version that allows us to disconnect the two screens magnetically? Thank you

You can have an opinion, the proper way is to make one yourself.
I'm a mini user and despite the fact this thing will be significantly wider than my mini, I'm tempted to buy one since it will be so short that it should be harder to topple out of the hand.

btw, off topic but you just gave me a terrible idea for a new social media app:

Hot Take:
Users just post their opinion on any old rubbish and viewers can thumbs up/down it.
(I know this is every social media experience)

The unique thing is it saves the Hot Takes you engage with as an enormous agree / disagree list you can view. It also generates a word cloud that describes your personality based on your Hot Takes. Then it can easily create an echo chamber of like-minded people for you to talk to.

Now I just need to find a Venture Capitalist I can swindle millions of dollars out of...

I can imagine them being very popular with "influencers". Presuming the camera isn't compromised. They will be able to look at themselves at twice the size after they take their selfies.
