I was able to deal without it.

The addition makes the device much more useful. The benefit is it doesn't kill your battery for those that don't know how to manage multiple tasks running at once.

I don't use the multi-tasking bar like I thought I would, but I definitely like being able to listen to Pandora in other apps, save my exact place in an app, etc. Really think Apple nailed it on the "fake" multi-tasking. :D

I agree, the term 'fanboy' is overused. My point was really where are all those people now who so vehemontly defended Apple for not having multitasking, and what is their opinion now?

I see your point there. And I honestly do get the whole "fanboy" thing. And I'm sure some who said it wasn't needed when Apple didn't provide it are now praising Apple for their wise decision. Fanboys do exist unfortunately. I never claimed it wasn't needed. But I'm not a fanboy either. In fact, besides my iPhone, this is the first time I've touched Apple hardware since using a Mac back in my college days (late '80s). They're good machines, but being a computer programmer in real life, I've gone the PC route.

Anyway, I use multitasking whenever I use my phone. I LOVE that I can jump right back into my game or whatever after answering a text, taking a call, etc. I love just double clicking to load a recently used app (not actually multitasking of course) without having to scroll over multiple screens and messing with folders. It's a great feature and well overdue.

I also love folders. :D

I use multitasking every single time I pick up the phone.

Listening to music while browsing

Streaming tv and switching to browse during commercials

Streaming audio while in the car with turn by turn navigation going

Keeping Skype on to receive calls when my gf is on holiday

Switching to mail when in any applications

Keeping different games open in the background to go back to them

Switching between Notes and Calculator to add up budgets

There are endless uses for multitasking. I would argue that if you haven't used it, you're not using the phone to its full potential or just have limited use for multitasking regardless.

This is off topic but what app do you use to stream music in your car? I assume you mean through the car speakers. And to the OP, the multitasking tray is a great fast way to move in and out of Apps.

I use multi tasking, not all the time, but I do use it, and like the fact that I can use it when I need it, but I use backgrounder for when I need real multi tasking. I love backgrounder.
