In the morning ordered; delivered before dinner; installed few minutes later and folding ... The new GTX 780. That is really a beautiful graphic card. Looks great and performance seems promising.

Right now I do some run in Vista as I first need to get actual Linux driver. Current version refused the 780.

What I see is quite some fluctuations in PPD; from 89k to 189k ...

And in Winter the "old" 660Ti will join again; right now one GPU must be enough given the outside temperature.

Congratulations!

You're right, over and above the performance, it really is a nice looking card.

Let us know how it settles in!

I know what you mean about the heat; I'm about to turn off my 660Ti as well...

a bonus with the GPU rigs is that you can use a very low capability rig (or old rig) to feed the GPUs (don't fold on the CPU) and the GPUs can be sold later and if you game it's good for that too! the specialized AMD rigs must be good for something other than folding but I don't know what, exactly...

well the AMD rigs can make a good server (web, file, etc). i gotta tell myself something ;)

Oops

Guilty ... Part of the selection decision was your feedback on the brand. That plus price and availability made the deal.

Now I struggle with the Linux setup. Time to rebuild the setup. I think the disk is going bad.

nothing wrong with that. i just went with it because it's what my local shop had. it's a great looking card though.

good luck with the setup!

Back in Linux folding business ... Ubuntu 13.04 with repo from xorg-edgers; thanks to some hint from the other forum. That brought a working driver setup (319.x). Looks like the 780 is really bleeding edge even for Linux; in between it offered the card as Titan :D ; I wish

great! look forward to watching you pile on the points :D

The new 780 did quite a number of P8900 with 30.8k each resulting in 126kPPD with stock clock under Ubuntu. TPF 3:30; total runtime 6 hours

Compared to 5:40 / 61kPPD on my 660 Ti (which is now in summer vacation)

:)

I'm getting the same on my 660 Ti -- almost exactly...

and I'll leave it to others who have a 780 to confirm but shouldn't you be seeing somewhere around 160 k on that card? maybe with a bit of tweaking?

yes you can, but you have to overclock it. which leads to more heat, and potentially more problems. my rig keeps crashing on me when i overclock it.

I read over the weekend more about OC; the new core 17 don't like it too much. With regular stock clock the system will work smoother. So I think beside tweaking the fan speed I will not OC on 780 for the time being.
Oh yeah, and more heat I don't need here in summer

sorry to hear about the OC issues... sometimes it's just too good to be true I guess...

how many ppd can you expect with standard clocks on the 780?

and I'll report that I used to have success running AMD and nVidia on the same rig but no longer. set up 2 new rigs and still no go. but the heat wave here is over so at least running 2 rigs isn't as bad as it could be...

With current P8900 I get each WU around 30.8k points. With 6 hours runtime that's 124kPPD ; that's what's mentioned also in some video from PG about the Titan and core 17. I'm quite ok with that value. It gives a constant "income".

Big mistake:

I installed FAHControl on my Windows Tablet; thought it would be nice to have access to all clients from W8. Now it happen that during the installation and a restart this little system started working. Was not fast enough to stop it and forgot the pause-on-start.
Now this poor i5 1.8GHz has to finish a P8702; it will be worth 884 points. I don't want to dump the WU.
Looks funny compared to what the GTX 780 creates ...

I know what you mean; I wish the default for F@H when you installed was pause-on-start and that you could toggle it off...

oh well, once that one gets chewed and spit out then you'll not have to worry about it again :)

I'm finishing up a 8103 so I bet the next one will be a 8101...

----------

do you guys have windowed cases to be able to admire the cards while they fold?

i got another 8101 again :(

mine's not in a windowed case. my other rig kinda has one, but i wouldn't really look at it anyways.

Ok boys and girls I got my TWO new Titans going on an older PCIe 2 machine, we'll see what they can do on it. Also updated the client to the latest version. It's downstairs so I don't remember what molecules they got. Should add 3 or 4 times what I've been getting on my mac pro.

awesome! what clock speed are they running at?

Way to Go!!

I bet you'll see 300+ K ppd easy!

I long ago gave up using my Pro for folding...

I decided not to OC them, didn't want to have problems.

So far they haven't been doing very well less than 50K PPD each  going to get a new mobo with PCIe 3 to see if that does any good...

The Pro still plugs along giving me some points :p

If I can get them up to their potential!

gotta be something wrong there -- are they doing the advanced units? 7810, 7811, 8900 and 8902?
