I got another crash, might need some system rebuild ... Ahhhh. Nothing yet in the logs found.

well i just got home and when i turn the monitor on it says no signal. i can't tell if it's still folding or not. i hate to do a hard restart, but i don't wanna wait on the results either

I finished one yesterday. Painful. Half-way through an 8105 now so that's good.

are the 8101s ever gonna go away?

funny you should mention that; last two days I've woken up to a windows rig that has shut itself down after doing some windows updates... is that a "feature" I can turn off?

Hope it's just a connection or something like that...

and don't think there's anyone who will be sorry to see the 8101s fade into the sunset...

yeah i think you can change that setting in control panel -> review computer status

i have no idea. this is the second time. it was a blue screen [even though i couldn't see any screen lol].

yeah i hope we run out of 8101s soon

Thanks for the Win7 tip -- will have a look for it now!

and sometimes when I see that on my screen unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in solves it...

now can you fold with an amd 7970 and an nvidia gpu in the same rig? is the 7970 the right amd card to get?

been having issues with my rig running both the AMD 7970 and the EVGA 660Ti recently the AMD likes to be in the first GPU spot on the mono (or afterburner doesn't work on it) and while the nVidia card was OK last week in spot 3; now FAH gives feedback of bad WUs immediately after downloading, so the card never really gets going.

maybe it's my system, maybe something with 8900 and Core17.

will keep trying... (because I want to cut down on power overhead running 2 rigs for GPUs...)

so I'm glad you got the 780 instead of the AMD!

well we had a power outage last night, and this morning my big rig wouldn't power on. i just got home, so hopefully i can get it going again. i'm a little nervous

and we had another power flicker. luckily it came right back up this time. hopefully no more storms for awhile

that'd be a good thing...

I had to take the UPS units off line because they were driving everyone (and the dog) crazy when the power did go off and they started beeping...

Unluckily the Macross is offline for Folding. I found that the new requirements are too picky for -bigadv units (+8 physical cores). Furthermore, my Radeons 5850s are apparently not good enough.:confused:

Anyways, it had a good folding run. The old girl still does its job in other aspects. As per Folding, I think the Ark Angel project will need to address this.

the current requirements for bigadv are really picky... my 32 core system barely gets a 8101 WU done under the preferred deadline... you need a fast system with lots of cores to have a chance to make as many points as you can with a good GPU setup these days...

yeah bigadv units are tough these days. but you can buy/build a 4 processor AMD rig for fairly cheap, considering the amount of cores you're running.

What flavor/brand did you got ? And why ? Are they all the same with respect to chip and memory (beside factory overclocked version) ?

mine is a gigabyte version. i'm not sure about the other brands, but if you can get one factory overclocked, i'd go that route. mine isn't.

mine has 3 GB of memory

yeah good GPUs can get you some serious points also. might be the best way to go if you've already got a rig to put the gpus in.

a bonus with the GPU rigs is that you can use a very low capability rig (or old rig) to feed the GPUs (don't fold on the CPU) and the GPUs can be sold later and if you game it's good for that too! the specialized AMD rigs must be good for something other than folding but I don't know what, exactly...

Oops
