It's not the tattoo shop's job to tell her what to think. The tattoo shop owner had a right to express his/her feelings about the situation and to try to make sure that the woman was making an informed decision, but I mean if she wants the tattoo then that's her business.

As far as all these people calling this woman stupid - she made a big time sacrifice and in the end the kid is going to remember the sacrifice itself a lot more than the fact that the tattoo is for an online gambling website.
I totally agree with you!!
To EACH THEIR OWN!!!

As much as I find this incredibly stupid, I find it very very sad. Why should you need to go through such a drastic measure just to get decent schooling for your child?! I know it was a stupid thing for her to opt to do, but its even more stupid of the website to only pay her $10,000 knowing its going to ruin her chances of getting ANY job later in life. Thats what it boils down to, she wont even be able to earn any money any more, and thats the depressing thing.

I guess its not just $10,000, she gets all the money from publicity of papers selling the story (at least thats how it works in the UK), but within a month or so that will have dried up.

This reminds me of a story here - someone at a chinese restaurant bet a man something like £10,000 that he wouldnt get their number tattoo'd on his head. He did, and they didnt pay up. Stupid stupid man :). I agree the tattoo parlour should have put their foot down, but if she didnt get it done there she'd get it done somewhere else.

When I got my tattoo (the ? symbal on my inner right wrist) they asked me several times if I was absolutely sure I wanted it doing. I practically had to convince them to do it, and thats how it should be. You should never get a tattoo thinking "Oh in a couple of years I can just get it removed".

Well thats my 2¢.
