I appreciate you being honest. I find it interesting to read all the opinions about Android and the Xoom from people who've never actually used one or played with it 15 minutes at Best Buy and declared it "crap" based on that extensive experience and what they read on the blogs. It's ok not to like it, or to think iOS is better, but the hate coming out of some of these people's keyboards you'd think the Xoom killed their puppy...

A Xoom ate my puppy, wrecked my car and then took a dump on my lawn. Or maybe I'm thinking of a country western song? Either way, the Xoom sucks. :D

Woot has the Motorola Xoom for $400 refurbished. I'm a little bored with my iPad and iPhone so I thought I might add to my collection.
Here's a link if interested: http://www.woot.com/

garbage in - garbage out.

It really didn't. The impact was very minimal.

I cannot find any Q2 numbers right now, but more or less lackluster Verizon launch was directly responsible for iPad 2 lines. Apple wants theatrics, stores full of people. And for Verizon iPhone launch day, they got crickets. So they had to create full stores by not doing pre-orders.

Google around a bit. In April 2011, Android took over Apple globally, not just in US. So as you can see, trend is not in Apple's favor.

Lackluster ? How do you figure that? By 5am, they had broke release day records, and you had to already be a Verizon customer. Sold out in under 12 hours. There was also a report that 30% of those iPhone purchasers were Android users. Does that make a big percentage change in the world market? Well of course not.

Last stats I saw, Apples profit share went up from 50% to 57 or 58% on their minscule 4% market share of the total cell phone market. Google can give away their OS, and manufacturers can give their phones away all they want, I'll take the profit. So no, Android is not walking all over Apple.

One of the problems with the Xoom is it's attachment to Google via Android. Read the TOS for any of Google's so called "free" services. Pay particular attention to section 11. I don't think so.

And again, there are also many Android forums out there. They will agree to anything positive you say about Android or negative about Apple and the people that use their products.

u mad?

Wow, that's a LOT! Considering that there are 500,000 Android devices activated per day

Riddle me this Batman.... iPhone 80K/day most profitable smart phone. Apple most profitable tech company.

Using your numbers, Android 500k/day no profit most phone makers breaking even or losing money.

Which camp would you invest your hard earned savings account in....

I would go with the one people are Willing to pay for, the company making a profit that will still be here tomorrow. I do not think iOS has a single worry from the free loaders.

Listen, this was a simple post regarding a good deal on a Android tablet.
Listen, it was off topic spam. It doesn't belong here.

hint: check the name of the forum.
Mods don't have a problem and neither should you. There are many people on this forum including myself that have a life other than Apple.
The insecurity of some of you people is utterly amazing.

Yeah, Google definitely won't be here tomorrow. They are tanking fast...

Google doesn't need to profit from android. They do fine profiting from ads. Those who don't think the companies making android phones profit on them are fooling themselves. Every phone sold the cell companies pay for, even if they give them away for free to sign you up for 2 years. Same for the android app Amazon gives away free every day. The developer still gets paid for each one downloaded. Google wins again for all the "free" apps downloaded that have ads in them.

I love how people brag about the Android install base like it means something. Android is free, second-rate OS that has been spammed on dozens and dozens of phones across multiple manufacturers on multiple networks. People aren't "buying an Android phone". They are buying whatever crappy phone they can afford that looks neat. I'd bet more than 95% of people that have an Android phone don't even know it's an Android phone. I'd bet those 95% of people simply know that it's not an iPhone.

Meanwhile, iOS has been available on one phone on one carrier for a very long time. Only recently did Verizon pick it up. I guarantee you everybody that owns an iPhone knows its an iPhone.

Android is free. Google could stop development tomorrow and shut it down, it would have little to no affect on Goggles bottom line. They could care less, it is not a profit center. Google sells ads, they give away software to help them sell adds.

My point was the phone companies who load a free OS they are the free loaders. They are the ones breaking even or not making a profit on their phone sales. They are the ones with little incentive to remain in the market unless their phones can start making money. Basic economics, products which make money remain in the market place, products which loss money do not. Android phones will be around for a long time. There will always be someone who thinks they have the right formula to make a profit with a free os.

Someday there most certainly be someone making a profit with it. Android is not bad, it is just not the savor of mankind as so many Android folk post here. It will not bring down the iPhone, iTouch, iPad, or iOS as many Android fans hope for.

I have played with the Android tablets, they seem cool enough for some people, they do not fit for me. I could list many reasons why, the Apple folks will agree, the Android folks would disagree. Point is we each spend our money or BOGO on what fits our life style.

The OP wanted to share his idea of what he thought was good deal. For him it was. The only problem with this is it is a bit like someone going into a Ford showroom and telling everyone about the great deals on Chevys right down the street.

KDoug, thanks for the post. It looks like a good tablet. At present, I still love my first gen iPad. However, I like to try new things. Unfortunately, the budget won't allow it.

Android and iOS can co-exist.

.... iPhone 80K/day most profitable smart phone. Apple most profitable tech company.

"Most" profitable doesn't mean the "only" profitable.

Apple's iPhone profit margin has been dropping due to such things as finally having to pay back and future royalties to Nokia.

Analysts say that still leaves them with a very high gross margin, perhaps close to 50%. However, with RIM at 42% and most other makers above 30%, all are making money on each sale.

... Android 500k/day no profit most phone makers breaking even or losing money.

See above. Such a claim makes no sense. Everyone's making a profit with Android smartphones.

Android phone makers such as HTC and Samsung have sales 3-6 times last year's, with record smartphone profits.

Even the inexpensive Android producer Huawei is doubling their projections of sales.

Meanwhile, iOS has been available on one phone on one carrier for a very long time. Only recently did Verizon pick it up. I guarantee you everybody that owns an iPhone knows its an iPhone.

The iPhone has been available on hundreds of carriers around the world for a very long time.

Everyone has different technology background it's not strange that they will have different perspectives of a newly released product. But to persuade others to accept your opinion is a kind of annoying thing.

Big budget doesn't mean anything for a people who don't need this thing or have no enogh money for that.

I can see all this fanboy pissing contest about other tablets and ipads - eventually resulting in the same crackdown as the console forum did a couple of years back when fanboy nonsensical ranting began to take precedence over actual debate and thought.

and actually on-topic the Nook Color is always a good 'budget' android device as long as you don't mind going to cyanogenmod on it.
