so don't buy a mac....?

...i don't really understand the point of this thread....

Actually I am also an Autodesks AutoCAD user and my job depends on it, however I am also a Mac fan and I would love to just use an Apple computer and Mac OS X as my primary and only machine but just because of that particular reason I spend most of my computer time on a Windows PC.

Please explain exactly how mentioning mac cultists and mac enthusiasts show that the OP was talking about himself. Take away the name calling and all you have is a post that says that the Mac does not serve OP's needs. This is not exactly the kind of news that merits interrupting a TV broadcast of the NBA Finals.

You are correct, my mistake- What I meant was he was only saying what his needs are. He doesn't say a mac does not serve his needs overall, a Mac just doesn't serve all of them.

enthusiast is not really name calling and like I said above, cultist is not either if used with the definition I gave from the dictionary- but again I wouldn't have chosen the second word do describe any of us. I have no problem with enthusiast- just a noun

Now as much as I'd love Autodesk to make their products run natively in Mac OS, they have obviously not found the Mac market to be a big enough niche to make it cost effective.

I also do alot of work with digital music, and for this my hardware and software is great on the native mac os environment.

I'm sorry Apple, until Autodesk conforms, you will not satisfy.

I hope this sheds some light on you super mac-enthusiasts, i'd be glad to field any questions you may have.

I heard a podcast (some time around the last half of 2005) with a VP from Autodesk. He spent a bit of time during this interview talking about OSX and the possibly of Autodesk porting programs to it. Now that Autodesk owns Maya (30% of Maya users are on Macs, myself included) they have backed themselves into some level of Mac support. I would not be a bit surprised if they port most all their programs to the Mac over the next few years. After all, Jobs is positioning himself to have quite a bit of influence on HOW movies are made (FCP, Shake, Motion, Renderman, Pixar/Disney), Autodesk has a whole product line of high end composing programs for the movie industry. If Jobs starts using this wide range of influence (you know he will) and Autodesk ignores the Mac, they may find themselves losing business in key areas. While you might assume that the Mac market is 5% across the board, when you look at areas that deal with graphics and motion the Mac has a far larger market share. It's only a matter of time.
