My Launch Day iPhone 4 had the mysterious battery drain problem as well. Its a shame Apple did not fix the problem this time around.

I would charge my phone to 100%. Remove phone from charger. Power off (not standby). Turn it on in the morning 8 hours later. Battery down to 50%. Apple's 'diagnostic' program said the battery was fine, but the Genius noticed it draining while we spoke. They replaced the phone with a brand new one.

If the 4S was going to drain battery life as much as it is now, Apple could have at least thrown in 4G and a bigger screen. Mine is lasting as long as the first Samsung Galaxy S that I use for work.

This whole "charge it at night" advice is just a deflection to the actual problem.

People dont mention their battery drain because they're too dumb to charge their phones at night. They mention it because if a battery is draining during zero usage then it can only be worse in the daytime when they actually are using it to get things done.

As much as the OP would prefer people quit affecting his life by voicing out an opinion, this is a major issue that affects the way we use our phones.

I wasn't challenging the issue of battery drain at all
It may be an issue for many given the number of posts and threads

I was just expressing my confusion over how some people manage their device
It isn't right or wrong, just different from what I am used to

You are looking for an argument and attitude that wasn't present in my post

I literally unplugged my iphone at midnight right as I was going to sleep. At 9 am it was still at 100% and only after a minute with the lcd on, it dropped to 99%. Both 3G and Wifi was on all night.

The 4S has a decent battery and shouldn't be too different from the iPhone 4. If you're having trouble with it, cycle the battery a few more times. Brand new batteries need to be used a few times to fully reach their capacity.

Turn off ping in restrictions, Siri(HUGE Drain), Location based iAds, Traffic, Compass Calibration(unless you absolutely need it), set email to fetch manually with no push, and make sure your multitasking bar is clear.

How do you turn off "Location based iAds"? I can't find that anywhere.
Thanks!

I think the issue is that some 4S's are getting much worse battery life than others.

It would appear to be the case. My 4S for example does not reflect the common complaint about battery drain that is being reported here. Battery life is certainly not as good as it was on my 3GS, but I easily get through a day on a single charge, and currently I have 89% battery after almost 15 hours since recharging, showing 40 minutes of usage. Location services, wifi and BT all on.

It's certainly possible that errant apps are causing excessive battery drain in some instances, and is also possible that there is a bad batch of batteries.

As someone that posted earlier, I can contend from personal knowledge that some 4ses seem to be experiencing a battery issue. My phone was dropping at least 12% an hour, normally more with no use.

Under the same conditions today with a replacement phone, several location services on, getting push email all day, moderate brightness, I've dropped only 20% of battery over 9hrs+ of standby and 2hrs of total listed 'usage' based on the phone's stats.

SO I would have to say that SOME phones have issues, not all. And it might not even be hardware, but maybe a software glitch causing the hardware to freak out, I don't know the answer, I can just say definitively that my replacement phone is experiencing NONE of the issues I had before.

My 4S battery is doing great....

Turn off iCloud, location services except for Maps, and get rid of weather and stock in the notifications.

Easily makes it to the end of the day:

iCloud doesn't matter as that doesn't effect battery life

The iPad 2 got given a load of new features, including the same A5 chip and the battery didn't get effected.

Its not about having the battery % showing, its about not making it through a day on a single charge.

The iPad is 5 times bigger :roll eyes: also, stick with the 4, if your that fussy!

Actually, I get notably worse battery performance from my iPad 2 than my original iPad. Presumably the A5 processor draws more current, as it also appears to do in the iPhone 4S.

I think they just expect it to have the same battery performance as the phone that came before it... not really too much to ask for is it?
Or better battery life than the competing phones that people are always make fun of for having horrible battery life.
