Thanks, I'll check out iStat Menus. I looked at Activity Monitor and Window Server was at 120% CPU. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.
I was going to suggest looking for window server. Noted that it ramping up would cut my battery in half and can’t pinpoint the trigger. Maybe audio playing?

Not in my case. But I just installed iStat Menu and now I'll be able to monitor more closely.

After the rapid battery drain this morning, I restarted and things have been back to normal so far.

I've added the time domain process load graph as well to my iStat topbar to more readily distinguish between a blip and a runaway.
Just checking I'm doing this right - I have iStat and set top bar to memory % (options were memory & pressure). Not sure if either of these are relevant for spotting runaways? But if I click the drop down menu appears and I've got processes as the drop down. Is processes the best place to spot runaways? I've got the control centre using 3.5gb!

I was also was getting 120% CPU on 'windowserver' earlier that was tanking my battery life. Happens regularly. Despite a clean Monterey install and just running Safari, Chrome, Messages, Whatsapp, Music, Google Drive. Force quitting every one of these made zero difference - I needed full reboot.

I got the base model.
I guess I'm the only who's a bit disappointed with the battery life.
I end up killing the battery within about 8 hours. Some reddit browsing on apollo and streaming youtube videos.
Btw, does streaming 4K video kill the battery faster than 1080p?

Using Safari or a different browser? Yes 4K video will use more power, but you can enable 'Optimize video streaming while on battery' in system preferences and also enable 'Low Power Mode' when on battery and you'll easily see another 2 hours.
