I have the 16" right now and while it's impressive, I'm wondering if it's too big for my use now that I have it. My biggest concern with going to the 14" is if the battery life is bad. So far, the 16" battery life is incredible. I know the 14" is a step down, but wondering what average use gets.

Thanks in advance.

Same predicament. Was about to cave in on the 16" and it may be a bit too big as gorgeous as that screen is.

Wondering if anyone has a Pro and Max if they could list first day battery usage (or for those in Aus, a day and a half), maybe even compared to their M1. Not much on the Max itself, and not a whole lot on the Pro as well.

Classic Apple. They could have given the 14 better battery life but then that would have effectively slaughtered the M1 13 and cannibalized 16 sales.

With all of the hoopla over the notch and everything else about the new MBP's, my mind saw that picture and came up with a perfect caption for it:

'Dismayed/distraught purchasers are stunned to find out that the 16 inch MacBook Pro is larger than the 14 inch model!'

Forgive me... (Although it could be an Onion story lead)

'STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER! KEEP YOUR HANDS UP!!!'

With that, I will vacate the premises...

I charged my 14" to 100% yesterday at 1pm. Used it for five hours in the afternoon. A few hours in the evening. A few hours this morning. It's sitting at 47%.

During that time the most intensive work performed was downloading and installed MS Office, Photoshop, a few other applications, then editing 4k photos .raw files. Very impressed with battery life so far. Two days ago I was using a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 and it would be dead by yesterday evening (easily).

Keep in mind that when you first get a new Mac, it's downloading a bunch of stuff and working in the background. Battery life doesn't tend to stabilize to normal until at least 3-4 days after setup, in my experience. So, if folks are getting pretty good battery life on day one, that's a good sign.

Thanks, looking forward to the battery tests Reviews on YouTube

I have a 13" M1 air and pro. While this 14" base model does not get as good as battery life as either of those machines, I have had 12 hours on battery today doing paperwork, listening to music, doing some YouTube, etc and I still have 35% left with estimated time of around 3 and a half hours left according to my battery health 3 app.

Yes will be interested to compare the 14inch m1pro and m1max battery life.. if there is a difference.

Bump

I'm on a 14" M1 Max, 64gb RAM, 24-Core GPU and activity monitor says I'm at 6h 27m on battery today, brightness on 50% and my battery level is currently at 64%. Workload has been 60% Figma, 40% wireless web.

Anyone else?

I'd say this is pretty promising!

I would agree with others; no real concern with battery life for me. I had a full charge and worked for 30 minutes straight in excel while listening to music and I was down to 98%.

Obviously not an exhaustive test, but I think battery concern for this model is somewhat overblown.

Had my first full work day yesterday.

Unpacked at 89%
Battery low at 10%
Approx 8 hours use

14" 10/16 16gb/1tb

No rendering but pretty much everything else. Keep in mind, this included all the usual new Mac setup stuff, data download / spotlight indexing / photo download / processing etc...

Today I've used it for 5 hours. I have lost 49% charge. It is essentially running at 1 hour every 10% used. But to be clear, I have not charged it to 100% yet. So I suspect there is some top end buffer. I.e. you loose less per minute used when starting at 100% than after some discharge. Just the way batteries report capacity at the top end.

So far, this seems about right. I seem to be losing about 10% an hour of normal, consistent use. My 16" loses around 5-7% an hour with the same use.

Is this your first day using it, though? Battery life is always worse for the first few days as setup is happening, things are running in the background, etc.
