You and me aren't the same user, we don't want or expect the same things from a pro-labelled device.

Exactly.

I'm the first in line who wants this to work, but so far it isn't - this does nothing to improve my workflow. "Buy it and the apps will come" is a tough sell, I sure as Hell can't put that sort of promise forward when I send in a purchase order.
No one is telling you that. How can the person who wrote the first sentence quoted above not understand this?

No one is telling anyone to buy anything. There are dozens of high end Macs, tablets, and PCs to choose from. There's no One Right Answer. If one isn't right for you, that doesn't make it bad, wrong, not "Pro", whatever.

It just makes it not right for you. That's all.

The most bizarre factor to all that feel a need to post your disapproval ....why spend time complaining about a product you don't even own or have anything invested in?? Leave the forum posts to those that actually own and invested in the product to compare notes. It's a Apple forum for advancements of the product. Stopping by to say you "don't approve' does nothing but waist everybody's time that actually owns the product in question. To further the point,.... why would anybody that owns the product even care that you "don't get it" or "don't like it"??

How about contributing positively with the product you actually own and have some insight with?

What is your workflow....?
Personally, my workflow is still heavily RAW file-dependent, so in the interest of full disclosure, I can't say the iPad Pro gets my panties wet in every aspect of my creative life. I prefer to shoot NEF, ingest directly to Lightroom, triage, tag, and start spot removal when the shoot is still fresh in my memory (and before the dread of post-production tedium kicks in). For that reason, I'm going to be stuck lugging my 15" rMBP around until Adobe and Apple decide to take the muzzle off the RAW workflow we all know the iPad Pro is perfectly capable of.

But, having said that, I've already seen where this tablet SMOKES my Cintiq in tactile response and drawing accuracy, and it is rapidly becoming an indispensably quick, uncluttered, and painless vehicle for my sketching proclivities (which is ultimately why I bought it). When my pencil gets here, game over for the Wacom. And as long as iOS plays nice with my Google and Synology ecosystem resources, I'm not worried about bridging the gap between laptop and tablet.

They say the best tools are the ones that get out of your way and let you create. It's a point that Ive and Schiller keep pontificating about in every reveal and keynote, and it's the darn truth.

Perhaps, but iOS in its current form is horrible for pro usage, with reason because that's precisely what it was not designed for (going back to a lighter mobile operating system). I'm perfectly fine with not having OSX on the iPad, it wouldn't work, but iOS isn't it either - there's something missing here. And let's be frank, we're missing pro apps for pro work, but we're also missing enterprise-friendly features to allow this device to be better integrated with work environments; again, iOS isn't directly at fault as that's not something it was designed for, but Apple needs to up its game for this product to succeed as something more than just a sketching pad/larger iPad.

Yes, we know, I agree with you :)

It would've been great if everything for the iPad Pro was already developed, updated and ready for the future, but they're not, for whatever reason, who knows. Right now, this early on, your right, it's not much more than a powerful iPad with some cool new features. That will change.

The device just came out, it's in it's infancy. Only the hardware is ready at this point in time. The OS (iOS) and apps need to catch up, and they will, in short time. That's the 'easy' part when the hardware (A9X, screaming graphics, 4Gb ram, USB 3.0) is already in place and waiting to be taken full advantage of.

It's not what it is now, but rather what it will be in the near future.

I give Apple a tremendous amount of credit for the clever way they manipulate people's perception surrounding their product line. They have been doing this for years with such success it's amazing.

Why there's any question or argument over the term "Pro" is moot. It's all about getting the job done, something that Apple products succeed at quite well.

Yet there's lots of sensitive people that seem to value the model name and cosmetic appearance above all. A rather unique obsession.

The iPad pro is fine, the iMac ...... That's where the hate should be directed to

I heard today (The Tech Guy Radio Show) that the Mac Pro has been a disaster, a real lemon. Imagine having dropped that boatload of cash for something that turned out to be junk.

Why? Just a debate. Would like to know people's use cases and opinions. I just have mine. Will probably be the first to buy iPad Pro 2 if it gets improved a lot.

What about the following quotes of yours from this thread indicate that you want to have a debate and are interested in other people's use cases and opinions? I'm genuinely curious, because to my eye it just looks like a bunch of insults and one-sided critiques.

Cannot believe people defend iPad Pro. Look at it. Look at the brilliant marketing convincing people you do not need a mouse input. Even Surface RT had this. Happy scrolling with lifted arms.

Oh, and the device brought my straight to 2010 with the huge weight like the first iPads and the bezels. First thought I had was: outdated product. Even Apples new technology 3D touch is left out. It just felt so old, non modern. Especially the keyboard shortcuts.

I am exactly that demographic. Except i do not fall for marketing on that level.

Exactly my prime example. A toy device like RT and iPad "Pro" will be toys even with a trackpad. But at least it had one.

Moores law explains advancements in other areas, but not remaining 2010 points.

Remember that the first iPad was working largely with only iPhone apps that it scaled up (in a pretty ugly way) when it was first released. It takes time after hardware is released into the wild for independent developers to really wrap their heads around a new hardware experience and tailor their apps to accommodate it. Sometimes it takes a little while; Netflix, a star player in the app scene and an "Essential" in the app store still has not updated their app to take advantage of multitasking/PiP in iOS 9.

It just takes time. If some folks can't justify buying it based on its potential then by all means wait and see; no one can blame them for that. The iPP will undoubtedly grow into its new role, but four days after its release is a little early to be judging it as a failure or a doomed device.

I believe that. I don't know any photogs who ran out and bought one like they used to scramble for the big aluminum box. I think that whole scene lost its necessity when Apple moved to Intel processors and it became obvious you didn't need four CPUs and ten tons of RAM just to push high rez pictures around. Even the smallest MacBook Pro is perfectly capable and costs half as much.

Can't speak for video editing though.

Takes a bit of time to your head around apples releases I think.

Why no hybrid? From a Surface owner I guess apple didn't want a device to do 2 things mediocrely.

You buy your Mac, your iPad and your iPhone and you get stuff done... or have fun.

If like me your not sold on Mac, have an on and off iPhone relationship, like android but only on a phone due to there not being enough android tablet apps, LOVE the iPad and want is as well but also a portable that's more capable AND need a decent non Mac laptop well...

You end up with a lot of devices. It pays and saves to be an apple fan no? :D

The Mac Pro looks great, but unless you do video editing it's not a very good replacement for the old machine.

It's the new iMac with 5400 drive, and a fusion drive that was crippled that disappoints me the most. Your basically being forced to upgrade to the very expansive ssd model.

Device is made for designers and creative folk.

Unable to purchase pencil immediately.

Device becomes just a large iPad.

i cant even believe there are even arguments about it. it's like arguing politics or religion or Art. - my belief is better than yours. how can you possibly support that?

there is no right and wrong. only pointless threads.

one man's trash is another man's treasure.

(i can respect any person's point of view or likes/dislikes, but what i dont like though are people who tell me i'm deluded and hoodwinked by the corporates, telling me i have no self thought or control. to these people i have ZERO respect or liking. People who genuinely think they are a better person than me because i'm a sheep and dont share their opinions need to look in the mirror, thats how wars start)

rant over :)

It's your money you can do whatever you want with it, but I think people can voice their opinion as to why they think it's a bad purchase, even if they don't own the device. People who don't own the device and like the product are voicing their opinion as well.

Either way, i personally wanted the device for no other reason than wanting a new tech device, but no immediate pencil availability threw me off.

Considering Apple's return policy goes all the way to January 6 I think people who are on the fence should get one, use it for a month and then decide. That's what I'm doing. But if I needed an opinion I would solicit one from someone who actually owns the device.

Rene Ritchie tweeted that he saw several iPad Pros on the flight he was on. I have a feeling this device may be more popular than people think. I know the two Apple stores I went to this weekend the iPhone and existing iPad tables were pretty empty but the iPad Pro tables were full of people playing with the device.

'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh oh...except the Pencil, gimme the Pencil ;)

It's the new device, of course more people are playing with it.

My local Best Buy only has one Pro on display, no one looked at it for the 15 minutes I was in that area. Those in that area all were looking at the MacBooks FWIW.
