uh oh... messed with Terminal and now in trouble. Help!

I also had trouble with Saft and found the advice noted in response #5 on another google result (so I missed the comment below that that advised amateurs like me not to mess with Terminal).

I finally got rid of Saft but I think I did something bad in Terminal. When I open up my HD icon, there appear a lot of things that never were there before, such as .com.appl.timemachine.supported, .DS_store, .fseventsd, .hotfiles.btree etc. Lots and lots of files and folders that were not there or are ordinarily invisible. Also, on the desktop appear two files and two items with HD-type icons: .localized and .DS_Store, and home and net, respectively.

Can anyone give me very baby-step style instructions on how to get things back to normal? Very much appreciated!

Hello,

I'm trying to get rid of saft as well. I'm using the tips given in this thread (open terminal, login as root, etc), but it gives me this thing that says, "bash-3.2#" and I have no idea what it is. Typing in "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE" doesn't seem to do anything because when I hit enter, it gives me "bash-3.2#" again and when I try searching Spotlight for Saft files, it gives me nothing.

I am not literate in Terminal at all so if you can help explain what I'm doing wrong, please, explain to me as if I am a complete moron who doesn't know anything about anything.

Thank you again for any help you can provide.
