Can you see yourself selling your ipad 2 less than one year from now for half the price you bought it for, just to upgrade to the ipad 3? Hopefully something that you sought after everyday for probably a month would hold some sort of sentimental value when the next one arrives.

I don't know about the "half the price you bought it for", a friend of mine sold his 16gb wifi only iPad1 two weeks before the Apple announcement of the iPad 2 for $450.

I was happy for him but he is still hunting his iPad 2 currently.

I've sold used musical equipment for nearly the same as what I bought it for (used).

Things like guitars pretty much all feel, play, and sound differently even if they came out of the same factory because they are made of organic materials like wood. And most guitars don't "improve" year after year, they are just different.

So prices stay about the same, maybe even go up after a line is discontinued.

I don't expect to sell an iPad at the same price as I bought it a year later because it is exactly the same as the next guys iPad. Plus there is a better model for more features at the same price I bought it for. So essentially after you sell it becomes more like a rental, you used it for a year for $200 or so.

I don't see the point in keeping it, as it is just a worse version of what I have now, and the chance of me using it again is almost zero.

I don't really hold any sentimental value in my electronics as they can pretty much be replaced with a trip to the local apple store or best buy.

Yes, dear OP, I will buy the iPad 3 and probably give iPad 2 to daughter or wife, or sell it, because I can afford it, and find standing in line for hours with other Apple enthusiast one of the funnest times ever had when purchasing an electronics item.... Life is Good!

Welcome to the constant upgrade path. Did you just arrive here from 1992?

I really hope you are being sarcastic. I can't believe the funnest times ever in someones life would be standing in line for 4+ hours to spend $500. If this is truly the case, then yes, your ipad should hold sentimental value. WINNING

I bought mine for $599 on launch day and sold it for $550 a year later.. I got way more than $49 worth of use out of it.

Sorry you're bitter.

I take it to those that dump the girlfriend when she turns 30 and you upgrade to a younger, less worn model with the latest fads and features.

It was worth it to me to upgrade. Kept iPad 1 for 10 months. Paid $530 for 16GB wifi after taxes. Sold for $400.

I sold mine for 80% of the purchase price 3 months ago. I didn't even get an iPad 2 yet and I'm not sure that I will. I was really hoping for an improved display.

But the OP doesn't seem to realize the great resale value on Apple products. Nobody has to sell an Apple product for 50% of the purchase price less than a year after it is released. That's nuts!
